We see ourselves as a ministry outpost, somewhere people can plug in and be accepted for who they are." He elaborated, "In a town where few people have no military connections, it is easy to get discouraged because of the high turnover rate in our congregation. But we want to send people out strengthened and ready for ministry outside of Fayetteville." Without the congregation at Snyder Memorial, Giles doubted he would have made it far in his musical career. "The Integrity Music Contest took the whole church. The winner was judged based off Facebook likes, so I needed the support of everyone in the congregation. It transformed from a mundane thing to a building of the church community. We were in it together and in the end, it was a journey we all won together." Though his life is often consumed with music, Giles has other interests. Besides being a devoted husband and father, he is a part of the inner city ministry that reaches out to the homeless people in the Fayetteville area. When he's not out, Giles spends a lot of time at his church office in a room stuffed comfortably with keyboards, guitars and toppling stacks of sheet music. His floor to ceiling bookshelves hint at a love of reading. "I love Tolkien and Robert Jordan. And even though Paul Baloche always inspires me as a worship leader, I love the Rend Collective, Mumford and Sons and the City Harmonic," he said with a laugh. "And one thing people should know about me is that I am a non-discriminatory lover of North Carolina barbeque." If Giles has learned anything in his musical journey, it's what he calls "blooming where I'm planted." He confided, "At one time, I didn't love my voice. I always wanted to be like the tenors on the radio, not my typical baritone. But I've grown to love who I am and where I am right now. If I can offer any advice, it would be to be content with what you've been given and love the life you're in." "Only then can you bloom where you've been planted." CV
