junk drawer at my parent's house," he
said with a laugh. On his 22nd birthday, Giles received his first guitar. At
the time, he was still in divinity school
at Campbell University. "I was new.
I had no friends yet, just the guitar
with a poster of guitar chords. So I got
comfortable with trying out the music
on the kids at the Baptist Children's
Home." He depended mostly on his
voice and guitar, along with his piano,
to develop his music career. "I had my
eyes set on contemporary music stardom when I went to college, but God
had other plans. I didn't get picked up
as an artist, so my work at the Baptist
Children's Home gave me the opportunity to play some of my first compositions. The kids didn't care if it was
perfect. It was music."
After graduating from Campbell
University, Giles traveled all over
North Carolina looking for a local
church to plug into. While leading a
worship team at a retreat for Snyder
Memorial Baptist, Giles was asked to
work as a part-time worship leader
for the church. "The job started with
working 13 hours a week, then 20 and
then it just became fulltime," said
Giles with a smile. "Working here
