A Tradition of Excellence K appa Alpha Theta, the first women's fraternity in the United States and on the Purdue University campus, has been at the heart of Purdue's Greek life since 1915. Past and present Alpha Chi Chapter members have attained high academic achievement and leadership in every aspect of student life. The chapter has influenced the lives of over 2,400 initiates, nurturing women and cultivating lasting friendships in the process. Would our chapter's sisters recognize the organization they started? Chances are they would not understand the way the young women wear their hair or their style of clothes, nor would they begin to comprehend the computers, iPads, and cell phones carried by everyone. Once the shock of the surroundings subsided, however, the charter members would recognize the eagerness, friendliness, excitement and fun that they, too, shared together. Couldn't the same be said for all of us? The world around us may have changed, but the bonds of our sisterhood remain the same. Like other women's fraternities, Kappa Alpha Theta is an organization dedicated to having a positive impact on the lives of women. We see this impact in our Alpha Chi actives. They are leaders in the classroom, on campus and in the community — and our alumnae carry on this same success in their own business and civic endeavors. Today, on campus and off, our Theta chapter has never been stronger. Together, we need to look ahead and maintain that strength by helping to give our active Alpha Chi Thetas an environment that will touch their lives and prepare them for the future in the same positive way it has for each of us.
