TRI DELTA Dispatch TH ET A OM EGA CHAPT ER O F D E LTA D E LTA D E LTA A T THE U N IVE RS ITY O F K A N SA S H FALL 2013 H H Built to Last here's no place like home, a famous Kansan once said. The Lodge at 1630 Oxford Road is a place we have all had the opportunity to call home. I still love walking into The Lodge. As soon as I hit the foyer, I can still hear the echoes of my sisters from the '80s. When we lived there, we thought the Chapter House was ours and ours alone. However, there comes a time when we realize we were there for such a short time. The beloved Lodge belongs to all sisters who have come before and those who will come after. What an awesome responsibility we have to keep 1630 in tip-top shape in order to pass it on to our current and future Deltas. T Our home is now over 60 years old. Remember the hardwood floors in the suites of the oldest part of the Chapter House? Well, it was discovered that they were not only in the bedroom portion, but also in the study areas! Our handy maintenance team refinished and restored several rooms back to original hardwood. They looked so good that we decided to replace the tired carpet in the new addition suites to a more modern hardwood floor as well. (I hate to be the bearer of shocking news, but the new addition is now 31 years old!) This update totaled over $30,000. You would love the new look of the suites! Keep in mind that the built-ins in the whole house are the very same as when I lived there in the '80s. We really need to tackle that major project in the near future. New members on Bid Day. example, we are the proud owners of a new 100-gallon water heater that totaled almost $19,000. Spending that kind of money on something no one wants to gaze at lovingly is never easy, but a necessity. Other important "invisible" expenditures were things like a new motor for the convection oven, additional sonicpoints for the internet, electrical work, and repairs throughout the house. The work never ends in a home as old as ours! I had the privilege to dine with our active members in September; what a delightful group of young women! You would be very proud of the Deltas who are now the occupants of our beloved Lodge. They would love to show you around! So come on home…just click your heels together three times (coincidence? I think not!) and repeat…"There's No Place Like Home!" Loyally, Janine Gracy '82 House Corporation Member janinegracy@ku.edu Janine lives in Shawnee, Kansas, and is assistant director of the Center for Public Partnerships & Research at The University of Kansas. As with any house, there are the mundane but extremely important updates and repairs that must take place. For Theta Omega Makes Strides toward Success he women of Theta Omega enjoyed a successful spring semester and an already successful fall semester as well! Last spring, the women had a jam-packed schedule full of recruitment workshops, a scholarship dinner, philanthropy events, and much more! T This fall, Theta Omega welcomed 53 new members to our sisterhood. These young women come from all different places and walks of life; they are sure to be an incredible addition to Theta Omega. These beautiful new Deltas are nearly finished with the eight-week-long new member period—and the chapter has enjoyed guiding them along the way. Here are some highlights from the spring semester.
