W Our Needs and Opportunities hile the KD experience is certainly more than the physical structure of the Chapter House, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our sisters and as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. RECENT GROWTH OF THE UNIVERSITY The University has nearly doubled in size since the year 2000. For the past few years sorority recruitment (rush) numbers have been the highest in the nation, making UA the largest Greek system in the nation. It is projected that new member class sizes will be 90-120 for the next 10 years. While KD continues to attract some of the top women, we know that there's a need to offer better facilities to our members, as we must also compete with the amenities offered in newly renovated on-campus residence halls and off-campus apartments. In addition, with the expansion of Bryant-Denny Stadium (2004-2006), some of the fraternities were relocated; therefore, some sororities have also relocated and rebuilt. These new facilities range in size from 30,000 to 40,000 square feet. The new Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Gamma, Alpha Delta Pi, and Delta Delta Delta houses are significantly larger than the preexisting chapter houses. KD has historically been one of the top chapters at UA, and we must acknowledge and address the changing housing trends to remain competitive and relevant. KEEPING OUR SISTERS SAFE The safety of our 290 collegiate members is of utmost importance to the House Corporation; we must offer a structurally sound and safe home for our collegians. The Chapter room has not been able to accommodate the current membership and the dining room space forces members to eat in shifts. Much like our personal homes, our Chapter House must be a safe haven that instills confidence in our members and their parents. PURSUING EXCELLENCE The University of Alabama is as academically challenging as ever and the need for an enhanced, quiet, well-lit, and comfortable study space within our facility is necessary for our members to achieve. We have all seen the impact of technology over the years, as devices not present during your college years are now necessities, including personal computers, high-speed Internet access, and e-mail. Our plan will ensure that KD excels academically and remains a scholastic leader on campus and within the Greek system. "With the growth of the Greek system, a new house is key in order to fit the huge pledge classes! The original KD house is beautiful and so I know the next one will be a new and improved version. I am jealous I will not be able to live in the new house, but can't wait to enjoy it during the football season in years to come." –Annie Thompson '10, 2013 VP-Standards and 2012 VP-Recruitment
