John Krumme '10 looked up to some of the players on the team, which made SigEp a natural attraction. "There were a lot of good players on the team. One day I visited the Chapter House and it was all uphill from there." John enjoyed being both a football player and a member of SigEp because of how the brothers supported him during games. "Whenever we played, the SigEps would bring the letters to the games. We always had a great time celebrating afterward." John earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He is a fourth-year medical student on a rotation in orthopedic surgery. He credits MO Gamma for teaching him leadership skills to be successful in life. "The fraternity gave me skills to be better at what I do. They taught me how to deal with people, work with others, and supported my career decisions. It changed how I looked at things and taught me that sometimes you have to sacrifice your wants for the needs of the group." John has stayed in touch with some of the recent graduates who attended his wedding. He and his wife, Stacy, live in Columbia, Missouri. John says he has an open door policy and welcomes brothers to contact him if they ever need anything or are interested in medicine. He can be reached at jwkgy5@health.missouri.edu. One of his best friends from high school and his brother became SigEps at Rolla and encouraged Mike to join. "They told me to come to Rolla, move into the SigEp house, and the rest would take care of itself." Although Mike had never visited Rolla, he quickly got to know the brothers of SigEp during his first week. "I liked what I saw and was asked if I wanted to join. During my early experiences in SigEp, I learned that MO Gamma was founded by veterans of the Second World War who were mature adults and did not feel traditional fraternity hazing tactics were appropriate. We also had a higher grade point average than any other fraternity. I immediately knew that SigEp was different from other fraternities at Rolla. I felt we were number one, and I liked that." Mike served in many leadership positions in the Chapter, including vice president. He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Missouri S&T, which was then called the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. Mike is thankful for his time at MO Gamma and hopes to see it continue to flourish. "SigEp had a profound impact on me both personally and professionally. I learned to respect and deal with a diverse group of people while motivating them to achieve their best. I learned the meaning of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. I learned more meaningful things related to my personal and professional life in the halls of the Chapter House than I learned in the classrooms of MSM." Mike said contributing to the capital campaign enabled him to give back to the Chapter that invested so much in him during his college years. "SigEp kept me in school. I'm not sure I would have stuck with it without the encouragement of my brothers." Mike and his wife, Alpha, have three daughters and five grandchildren.
