sigma chi fraternity at kansas state university Board Members Impressed with Chapter Improvements T Inside... 2-3 Thank You, Loyal Brothers 3 Chapter Prepares for Fall Semester 4 Chapter Officers Chapter Seeks to Maintain Competitive Edge he fall semester is upon us and the men at Delta Upsilon Chapter are excited to begin another year at K-State. Recruitment has made great strides and the House Corporation has continued making progress with future plans to improve the house. Recruitment Fills Chapter House I'm pleased to announce that for the first time in eight years the house is full once again. In the past we have struggled to convince and motivate the leadership of the chapter to realize financial realities concerning the appropriate amount of actives to have living in the house. We not only needed the right number of individuals but the right fit as well. Over the past four years, through the hard work of both alumni and undergraduates, we've made steady progress. It culminated in a large push last spring and summer with the chapter securing 22 new members for the fall. I'm very proud of our recruitmant chairman, Bobby Young '15, and all of those who helped him sign such a large class of young men. Having a full house has been a goal for a while now, and I think I can speak for all of us that it feels good to get back to this point. Facility Improvement Plans A full house speaks to newfound energy and momentum. As I've mentioned in past articles, the House Corporation is still working toward one of our biggest goals, which is a comprehensive renovation of the house. We feel that the undergraduates have done their part by taking the necessary steps to fill the house and change the culture. Our home has seen a lot of wear and tear over the years, especially on the second floor. We've done our best to keep it together by fixing and patching things, but even that has almost run its course. The men in the house and those who will live there in the future deserve an updated structure that meets the academic and social needs of today's student. As always, if you know of any quality young men, please send their contact information to the recruitment chairman whose contact information can be found in this publication. Thank you for your support over the years and we look forward to another great year at 1224 Fremont Street! When Francis Tyson '64 joined Sigma Chi at Kansas State University he was making a decision that would impact the rest of his life. "During the '60s almost everyone wanted to belong to something. It was a wonderful time in the fraternity system, and I think we are all better off because of it. We've kept in touch ever since." Brothers Nelson Farney '64, Russ Berlin '64, Barry Hoofer '65, Bob Pangburn '63, Francis Tyson '64, and Cliff Geis '64 attend the pledge class reunion. Fall 2013 Francis graduated in 1964 with a degree in speech broadcasting. He went on to become a pilot and eventually ended up in corporate jet sales. Today, he is retired and is fortunate to host his pledge class reunion every year at his home. He and (Continued on page 4) www.k-state.edu/sigmachi
