NOTES FROM MIZ KΔ PAGE 3 I n her role as a bank president, Sarah Smith Dubbert '96 is constantly asked how she stays calm and knows what to do. "In my head, I'm thinking they clearly never experienced sorority recruitment!" Sarah draws on her Kappa Delta experiences daily, including her collegiate and volunteer years. "From problem solving at work to discussing at-home issues with my kids or having courageous and crucial conversations, sometimes you need to dig deep and find some confidence while heading into the unknown." Sarah lived at 606 E. Rollins Street for six semesters and loved every second. Serving as VP member education had a major impact on her growth as she helped new sisters feel at home in Epsilon Iota. After graduating, she was stunned to discover the many ways to stay involved with Kappa Delta as an alumna and decided to join the chapter advisory board. Like many who step up on the national level, Sarah was initially "volun-told"—and is grateful to this day. "Trusting what others in that position see in you is a big part of learning and taking next steps," she said. Sarah joined the National Leadership Team as a chapter accounting specialist followed by co-manager of the team, and she is now stepping down after six proud years as National Vice President of Finance. "Being on the National Council taught me that we're hear to lift sisters up, not tear each other down," Sarah explains. "That there is "Stay involved by writing letters of recommendation, donating, sending white roses, and just being an advocate for Kappa Delta!" We started the semester with COB and welcomed 12 new members who were initiated on March 15. Academically, we continued to excel, and 64% of our members were placed on the dean's list. We also celebrated members who met or exceeded the GPA goal they set at the beginning of the semester with an ice cream sundae bar. In March, we celebrated a second-place win for Greek Week with Delta Sigma Phi and Theta Chi. We were also awarded best set in Fling, first place in Mystery Sport, fifth place in Fling, second place in Blood Drive, third place in total monetary donations raised, and fourth place overall in Service. Almost all our members donated blood, helping set a record for the most blood donated during Greek Week. The excitement from a second- place overall finish has rolled over to the fall semester, and we are very excited for our Homecoming pairing, Sigma Nu and Alpha Kappa Lambda. To continue maintaining and developing chapter morale, we held many fun sisterhood events. From Sipz Soda at the house to Drybar blowouts to goat yoga and perfume making, all these events helped us become closer as a sisterhood. We were also able to plan a surprise beach- themed social at the end of the semester. It was the perfect end to the school year! We hosted our Shamrock Week philanthropy, where we hosted the Girl Scouts and had them sell their cookies outside our house. We also sold tickets all week for our late-night dinner, Mac 'n' Cheese with the KDs, and doubled ticket sales from the previous year. Our philanthropy weeks this past school year raised over $20,000 for our philanthropies and beneficiaries. We cannot wait to see what we'll accomplish next! I worked with some of the absolute BEST people in my three terms and wouldn't change it for the world!" Sarah's council service included traveling to chapters as they celebrated their milestone anniversaries: 50, 75 … even 100 years for a few. "I'm super excited for EI's upcoming 50th anniversary, and I hope to see many of you at the celebration on April 11!" WHAT'S NEXT? Today, Sarah remains on the Kappa Delta Foundation Board and is eager to rejoin the CAB at Epsilon Iota. She encourages all alumnae to get and stay involved, whether locally, regionally, or nationally. Potential professional mentors can learn more on Kappa Delta's LinkedIn page at linkedin. com/company/kappa-delta-sorority, and there are countless house corporation boards and national committees to consider. "Be on the lookout for the volunteer application form information each fall, and simply apply online for anything that interests you," Sarah urges. "We welcome new alumnae into our folds every year, building a pipeline of new ideas and energy; this renews YOUR commitment too! We need all types of volunteers (time, talent, treasure), so raise your hand—you'll be glad you did!" Sarah lives in Columbia and can be reached at sarah.dubbert@commercebank.com.
