THANK YOU, GENEROUS DONORS C oming from a small family, Dan Churchill '63 joined the Maine Alpha Chapter to experience life in a larger community and make new connections in college. He valued the chance to become a productive member of the brotherhood, and Dan remains devoted to Maine Alpha as a lead donor for the new capital campaign. SIGEP DEVELOPMENT "I was encouraged to choose SigEp by my friends Fred Stoddard '63 and Brian Estes '63," he shared. Dan maintained lifelong connections with both, and Brian even contributed to Maine Alpha through his will after passing away three years ago. "They valued their time at SigEp and became lifelong supporters." Dan has many great memories from his SigEp college years. He vividly recalls stealing the moose head from the house with pledge brother Les Masterman '63. "Upon discovering that the head was missing, the brothers subjected Les and me to various quasi- humorous threats … at some point, we were told the escapade had gone far enough so we returned the head in the middle of the night." COMMITTED TO SERVICE Though Dan studied engineering physics with a minor in electrical engineering, his Sigma Phi Epsilon experiences led him to pivot career plans to something that would contribute to his country and public service. He spent eight years serving in the CIA and the U.S. Air Force before switching to international finance in the private sector, with 23 years of his career spent in Europe. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1998, Dan and his wife committed to supporting education for public service, international affairs, environmental affairs and climate science. Dan joined the UMaine Board of Visitors and was recruited by Matt Rodrigue '04 to support A Tradition of Excellence – The Campaign for Maine Alpha. SUPPORTING THE HOUSE Dan recognizes the rough state of the chapter house, and his generous contribution to the campaign supports better facility conditions for today's excellent undergraduate brothers. He also knows that an attractive house is crucial for SigEp recruitment efforts. WHY DAN CHURCHILL '63 SUPPORTS THE HOUSE CAMPAIGN A Firm Belief in His Brotherhood "My late wife and I have given to educational causes for some time, but we have always been careful to find those things we believed in, were most deserving and would have the greatest impact. I believe this campaign meets these criteria in every respect." Dan encourages fellow alumni to consider their fraternal pride and the impact of alumni contributions. "The future of the chapter as a positive force on campus will be secured." You can discuss the campaign with Dan at dbchurchill@gmail.com.
