Going the D i s t a n c e F or Carson Nakagawara '26, the Alpha Delta Phi experience has been one of personal growth and lasting connections. He was initially drawn to the fraternity's welcoming environment, where individuals from all walks of life could thrive. "The diverse set of personalities and interests that characterized the house allowed everyone to feel welcome," Carson said. Joining Alpha Delta Phi has since shaped both his college years and his future path. Over his time in the house, Carson has found pride in how the fraternity fosters personal and professional development. "I'm proud of the opportunities for people to grow and discover new interests through both past and present members," he explained. Alpha Delta Phi has proven to be a springboard for exploration and connection. Some of Carson's fondest memories come from everyday moments that turned into lasting traditions. "I've enjoyed playing on the intramural sports teams, eating with everyone in the dining room, and running and training for the Seattle Marathon with some guys in my pledge class." One memorable moment was running into an alumnus who was also running the race. "That connection showed me ADPhi's impact extends far beyond our time in the house." Carson's desire to serve made him a leader in the fraternity. He's held multiple positions such as vice president, technology manager, and mentorship coordinator. "Each role taught me something different about responsibility, collaboration, and how to support others," he said. These experiences have shaped his academic and career goals. Carson is currently a junior studying human-centered design and engineering. He is passionate about improving users' experiences with technology. "I've always been interested in enhancing those interactions while staying creative, intuitive, and innovative," he said. He plans to pursue a career in product or website design. Alpha Delta Phi has helped Carson build a strong foundation for that future. "It has pushed me to seek challenges and embrace new opportunities," he said. "At the same time, it's helped me improve my communication and collaboration skills— things I'll carry with me into any career." Carson credits many individuals for supporting him along the way. "My pledge class, my Big Brother and his Big, chef Jen, an alumni mentor, my executive team, and the Alumni Board have taught me so much," he said. Born and raised in Seattle, Carson grew up in a Husky household with his parents, Mark and Lorraine, and two sisters, Allison and Peyton. "My whole family has strong ties to college athletics and academics," he said. "I went to Ballard High School and played basketball and baseball there." In his free time, he enjoys shooting hoops and pushing his limits, which includes finishing his first marathon last fall.
