Sigma Phi Epsilon Page 7 G reek Run Club, established in 2024, is an IFC- and Panhellenic-sponsored social run club. Open to all university members, the club primarily focuses on fostering a healthier, more connected community within Greek life. GRC actively encourages participation from members of the IFC, Panhellenic Council, Multicultural Greek Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council. The club hosts regular short runs every Tuesday and long runs on Saturdays, organizes events at local businesses (Opus Coffee, Gator Nutrition, etc.), and participates in community races supporting various causes. Beyond running, GRC emphasizes building relationships and promoting inclusivity within Greek life centered around health. The brothers of Florida Alpha have gone above and beyond to support this endeavor through leadership (executive roles) and participation (over 20 brothers attending each week). I hope to continue to grow the club, planting trees that we will never enjoy the shade of. President and Founder of Greek Run Club Josh Daniels '27 L ast fall, several of our beloved '70s-era Little Sisters visited the Chapter House for the LSU game and learned about the upcoming Centennial celebration. These ladies created a Facebook group to foster old memories and relationships, which now includes nearly 60 alumni brothers and Little Sisters (both are welcome to join the group at facebook.com/ groups/1228130168238788). Noticing there was no formal recognition of the Little Sister program at the Chapter House, they organized a fundraiser to benefit the Chapter and gain recognition for the program that was so important to us all. They exceeded their initial $10,000 goal, raising an incredible $11,500 for the Chapter by the end of the Centennial weekend. As part of the Centennial festivities, a special recognition plaque honoring the Little Sisters and celebrating the lasting impact was unveiled. Florida Alpha's Little Sister program ran from 1969 to 1987 and mirrored the brotherhood's own recruitment process. Women were invited to Little Sister recruitment events at the Chapter House, where they got to know the brothers in a casual, friendly setting. Following the events, brothers would vote to extend invitations to carefully selected ladies, and brothers were dispatched to their dorms to present them with a rose and formally invite them to become Little Sisters of the Golden Heart. Little Sisters were a vital part of Chapter life— joining SigEp blocks at football games, helping build Homecoming floats, and participating in woodsers, intramural sports, and attending SigEp weekends. They even put on Christmas parties, writing and performing skits and songs (often hilariously poking fun at the brothers). As several of the women shared at the Centennial, "Being a Little Sister was a huge part of our college experience that impacted our lives far beyond those years." Florida Alpha Chapter is proud to honor the legacy of our Little Sisters and is grateful for the continued love and support they show decades later. Here's to the Golden Hearts— and to those who made it shine even brighter.
