I am a proud Kappa Delta legacy. My mother, Susan Broom Herron '68, was deeply involved during her time. She passed away in 1988, and when I pledged in 1998, it felt incredibly meaningful to continue her legacy. Being part of the same sisterhood brought me closer to her and filled me with joy. WHAT MADE ALPHA MU SPECIAL Our Chapter was full of genuine, sincere women. Each sister brought something unique, and I loved seeing those strengths come together—whether we were raising money for our philanthropies or learning the Derby Days dance. That authenticity created a bond that felt real and lasting. During my time at Ole Miss, I served as assistant PR, vice president of public relations, and led the preference party during senior-year recruitment. Being on council helped me grow as a leader, and organizing the preference party was extra special—my little sister went through recruitment that year and pledged KD too. MY YEARS AT OLE MISS I lived in the KD house for three years, and it was like one big sleepover! I made a point to get to know members in every class. That sense of community made the house feel like home, from the one shared closet to the countless late-night chats and friendships that have stood the test of time. I earned a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in business because I wanted to sharpen my communication skills, and I've always loved literature. After graduation, I went into sales, which fit me perfectly. I enjoy helping people and finding solutions; that's where I thrive. KD'S LASTING IMPACT Being in Alpha Mu shaped my college years and beyond. It gave me lifelong friends, a strong network, and leadership opportunities that continue to benefit me in both personal and professional spaces. If I could talk to my college self now, I'd say: worry less, study hard, and be present. Those years go by fast, so make the most of every moment! My pledge class has a group text that keeps us close. Social media helps, too. I love seeing what everyone's up to. I've lived in both Meridian and Oxford with KD sisters, and we've walked through many stages of life together. Now, some of our kids are even heading to Ole Miss at the same time. LIFE TODAY I live in Oxford with my husband, Campbell, and our daughters, Patton (17) and Collins (13). I've worked with the Ole Miss Women's Council for Philanthropy for 10 years and currently serve as program director. I'm also president of the Oxford KD Alumnae Association, involved in local school and church organizations, and love spending time with my family, especially at the beach. A WORD TO FELLOW ALUMNAE KD sisterhood doesn't end at graduation. I encourage alumnae to get involved locally and mentor younger women. Whether or not it's your Chapter, your presence matters. You can make a meaningful difference! Love in AOT, Suzanne Helveston '99 suzannehelveston@gmail.com SUZANNE HELVESTON '99 TALKS SISTERHOOD, SERVICE, AND STAYING CONNECTED
