Pi Kappa Alpha Keeping Up with Beta Mu T he McCabe family of Houston counts three Pikes among its members: father and son Robert '82 and John, Texas A&M, Theta Theta '22, as well as Robert's older brother, Don '80. While the return of the Texas Aggie and Texas Longhorn SEC football rivalry during last year's Thanksgiving may have caused some tension in the McCabe household, all three men agree that joining PIKE was the right decision! Robert and Don were born in New York and raised in Houston. "My brother was a Pike when I headed to Texas in the early 1980s," Robert shared. "I went through rush with other fraternities but decided the Pikes were a great group of guys and the best fit for me." Robert earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Texas and a law degree from South Texas College of Law. He began practicing law in 1990 and is currently a partner in the Houston office of the law firm Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons, where he focuses on commercial, construction and professional liability litigation. He is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Association and served as an elected board member of the Friendswood Independent School District in suburban Houston from 2008 to 2022. Don works in the cruise industry with Vacations To Go in Houston and is a proud Pike. Robert and his wife of 29 years, Liz, are proud of John and his leadership roles with Aggie PIKE, where he served as social chairman and alumni chairman. Their older son, Matthew, also earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M. John graduated in May 2024 with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management and is now working as a supply chain management consultant with The Joshua Tree Group, a Tennessee-based logistics consultancy recently acquired by Accenture. Both Robert and John speak highly of their experiences in the brotherhood. "I graduated from a small high school, and the University of Texas felt huge," Robert recalled. "But the Pike house gave me a home where I made friendships with guys I knew I could count on." John was initially skeptical about rushing a fraternity until he stepped into his first Pike event. "Everyone I met was genuine and unique, and I could immediately tell I wanted to be part of it," he said. "Pike means a lot to me, and the most valuable gift it has given me is my brothers. At Texas A&M Pike, we'd hear how your brothers will 'marry and bury' you—and it's amazing how true that is. PIKE has helped me develop into a leader, and I value the traits I've learned and will carry with me for life." Congratulations to Don, Robert and John on their proud legacy of PIKE brotherhood! LEGACIES Across Two Chapters Robert '82 and John '22. THE MCCABE FAMILY THE MCCABE FAMILY Father/Son Pikes Beta Mu traditions continue. Brothers enjoyed the spring formal held in San Antonio; PIKE's Silver Spurs members are active across campus; PIKE tapped in 17 Sweethearts this year from AXO, Alpha Phi, Tri Delta, DG, KD and Zeta sororities.
