O n April 12, Ohio Theta Chapter hosted the first-ever Career on the Rocks at the University of Cincinnati's Lindner College of Business. As the newest addition to the chapter's professional development programming, the event brought together undergraduate brothers and alumni for an afternoon filled with career exploration, mentorship, and genuine conversation. The event followed a rotating career fair format where brothers connected with alumni in small-group settings during a series of short, focused rotations. Each round allowed brothers to learn from alumni working in fields they are interested in, ask meaningful questions, and get a better understanding of what life looks like after college. Alumni participation was outstanding, with professionals representing a wide range of industries and career paths. Those who joined us for the event included: • Mike Taney '91, Chief Human Resource Officer at Duracell • Bryan Buechner '14, Assistant Professor, Marketing • Dr. Eric Phillips '14, Anesthesiologist/Physician • Sam Schulte '14, Construction Project Management • Jeff Forlenza '17, Petroleum Engineering • Alex Stringfellow '19, Co-Founder of RentEngine (Technology and IT Services) • Maura Smith, Plant Manager at Toyota (Automotive) • Mike Brutz '14, Medical Device Sales The brothers appreciated the opportunity to speak with alumni one- on-one, and alumni were equally enthusiastic about reconnecting with the chapter and giving back. To close the afternoon, Tim Waymire '18 gave a talk on alcohol etiquette in professional and social settings. His session covered everything from the difference between bourbon and whiskey to how to carry yourself at business dinners or networking events. It was a thoughtful and engaging way to wrap up the event, with advice that brothers will carry with them well beyond college. Career on the rocks continues to expand on the recent successful events programming that brings together undergraduate brothers with alumni and guests to provide professional development opportunities and fellowship. It strengthened alumni connections, offered real professional value to undergraduates, and showed what SigEp can accomplish when brothers and alumni come together with a shared sense of purpose. Undergraduates and esteemed alumni gather in the Lindner College of Business after our Career on the Rocks event. Brothers had the chance to learn about different career paths they may take after college, along with drinking etiquette they'll use for the rest of their lives.
