B ETA B ETA CHAP TE R of ALPHA PHI at MICHIGAN STATE U NIVE RSIT Y Spring 2025 The Ivy The Ivy F or those of you who do not know me, I am Melisa Burnett. I am thrilled to be taking on the role of House Corporation Board President, and this is my first official newsletter article. I have been involved with Beta Beta Chapter for 42 years, and I have seen firsthand the amazing impact this sisterhood has on its members. From late- night study sessions fueled by questionable amounts of caffeine to the unwavering support during, well, let's just say "adventures," this chapter has always been a special place. I am happy to report that the new HCB has almost made it through our first school year. We have enjoyed getting to know each other, the chapter advisors, and the current chapter leaders. We have had moments of joy, surprise, and frustration. Let's face it: our beloved house is almost 100 years old, and it seems we need to address something weekly. Likewise, the living expectations of incoming students continue to increase. It is a reality we take very seriously as we seek to maintain our status as a top house at MSU. So, what has been happening? HOUSE IMPROVEMENTS Unprecedented rain volume has caused leaks into the third floor. This was remediated, we thought, just before move-in. Unfortunately, it has happened again and may lead to earlier-than-planned roof replacement. FOOD SERVICE Food service has always been a challenge. Private chefs or food service companies are the only choices. It is a balance; trying to find a chef the ladies like, who prepares tasty food at an affordable rate, is like finding a needle in a haystack. Two of the major food service companies, one of which we currently have a contract with, are merging. We are hoping this leads to improved services and not a major increase in cost. WANT TO GET INVOLVED? Our chapter is eager to connect with alumnae who can share their career experiences. Do you have an amazing career as a doctor? Do you love teaching and want to share best practices? Did you start your own business and have experience to share? Our budding career ladies would love to hear all about it. In-person presentations would be amazing but are not required. If you are interested in being a guest speaker, please contact us at burnettmelisa@gmail.com. In closing, I am honored to be HCB President and am excited to see what we can accomplish together. Here is to a fantastic year under our belt, filled with sisterhood, success, and maybe just a little bit of mischief.
