TAU TALK ALPHA TAU OMEGA AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2025 Connect with Gamma Upsilon Online! $ atoisu.com/donate-now Alpha Tau Omega - Gamma Upsilon - Iowa State University @ato_iastate @ATOISU atoisu.com @ato_iastate E ric Rogers '90 had family connections to Iowa State, but not many high school friends enrolled there with him. People Eric met in class encouraged him to look at Greek life, so he tried informal recruitment in the spring. After meeting with a few fraternities, he decided Alpha Tau Omega was the best fit. "More than anything else, Gamma Upsilon taught me life skills—how to get along in a house with 50-60 guys, to make mistakes and recover from them, and to take on new leadership opportunities," he said. "I learned lessons from my time there that I continue to apply." Eric was on the chapter's senior class council in his graduating year, and he fondly remembers helping with VEISHEA and Greek Week through the years. "We made great memories from arranging serenades to persuade a sorority to partner with us to working late nights on our float and cheering on the bed races." GREAT CONNECTIONS Eric stumbled into a career in law and the life sciences industry "pretty much by accident." He interned for Pfizer's Environmental Health and Safety team at a manufacturing facility near Kansas City, which led him to a job at the company's research campus in Connecticut. "It was a great job for a 20-something—I would drive a forklift some days, write air and wastewater permits on other days, and go to the beach on the weekends in the summer." The lawyers Eric worked with encouraged him to go to law school. He went in expecting to become an environmental attorney, but his Pfizer connections led him to successful interviews with firms specializing in regulatory work for life sciences, and a career with in-house legal roles in major biotech, pharma and medical device companies. For the past five years, Eric has worked in Boston at Alexion Pharmaceuticals, the rare disease division of AstraZeneca, where he manages a global compliance team with members in North America, Europe, and Japan. FURTHERING BROTHERHOOD While staying in touch can be difficult between work and family needs, Eric trades holiday cards with several brothers and enjoys following their careers on LinkedIn. He also tries to donate regularly to groups that have supported him, including Gamma Upsilon. "I appreciated those who helped us when I was in school and think it's the least that I can do to pay it forward." Eric met his wife, Lisa Gomez, in law school at Boston University. They live in the Boston area and have two sons; Bobby is a sophomore at USC, and Zach is a junior at Brookline High School. The family has traveled around the country for work and love where they are now. As the kids get older, Eric and Lisa hope to travel more and are set on visiting Europe and Asia over the next few years. Eric encourages any brothers looking to reconnect to find him on LinkedIn or reach out whenever their travels bring them to Boston. Want to connect?
