Spring 2025 Chapter Update � � � � � � � � � � � � � � � � � 2 Giving Recognition � � � � � � � � � � � � � � 3 Dave Matulac '93 Spotlight � � � � � � � � 4 George T� Kilavos Award � � � � � � � � � � 5 Recruitment Update � � � � � � � � � � � � � � 6 T H E A L P H A M U T H E A L P H A M U TO M A H AW K TO M A H AW K Theta Chi Fraternity at Iowa State University GOLDEN AGE FOR ALPHA MU OUR NEXT STEPS Alpha Mu Pushes Forward After Campaign Success I am honored to write to you as the new Alumni Corporation Board president� It will be difficult to fill the shoes left by Ted Hovda '73, and I want to thank him for his 44 years of service as a board member� STATE OF THE BOARD Although Ted is leaving, I'd like to welcome Shawn Gannon '13, who was just elected to his first term on the board� Shawn also serves on the Chapter Advisory Board that works closely with the undergraduate members� We appreciate his willingness to serve in another capacity as an alumnus� After a very successful campaign to raise $1�9 million to create six endowed scholarship funds and provide educational space upgrades, we have a great foundation to continue providing for current and future members of Theta Chi� This shows a strong commitment from our alumni to make Theta Chi one of the best fraternities on campus� STATE OF THE CHAPTER Living in Ames, I've had the opportunity to get to know several of the members and am very optimistic about the current undergraduate leadership, along with the graduate student advisor, Yahaira Garcia Trejo, who will continue through the 2025-26 academic year� I recently attended a Candlelight Vigil on campus that was hosted by Theta Chi to bring awareness to sexual assault and domestic violence� This was the 12th year we have hosted this event, and this was the largest turnout ever; ISU President Wendy Wintersteen was a speaker� Special thanks to Sam Perez '28, vice president for health and safety, who organized the event� Just one example of how the chapter is benefiting the university and community� Being a college student today is much different than when I was an undergraduate in the early 1990s� In my day, the chapter leadership was mainly comprised of juniors and seniors, while this era's leadership is either sophomores or freshmen� I admire them for taking on this responsibility while still transitioning to college life, time management, being away from home, etc� UPCOMING HOUSE PROJECTS With continued strong recruitment and generous donations by alumni, this summer we are planning to renovate the second- and third-floor bathrooms, replace all member study room windows, and repair windows in other areas of the chapter house� As always, we invite alumni and their family to visit during the annual Alumni Weekend in the fall or whenever you are in the Ames area� Fraternally, Dave Matulac '93 Alumni Corporation Board President matulac@msn�com ALUMNI Corporation Board _____________________________ President Dave Matulac '93 Ames, Iowa Reelected to a three-year term.
