President Drew Franke '27 with the Excellence in Leadership Award at the annual FSL Fraternal Experience Awards. M y name is Drew Franke, and I am the new president of Sigma Phi Epsilon. I am a sophomore studying finance and strategic sales. I previously served as vice president of programming and was elected as president in November 2024. Kansas Beta has made great strides throughout the year. We had a new member class of 21 in the fall and a spring class of two. These new members have made great progress over the past semester, and we look forward to continuing to grow over the second semester. We held over 11 SLC events in the fall semester, including alcohol awareness and education, effective risk management, and a DISC assessment. All events offered guidance and support to new members and upperclassmen. We held our annual SigEp Safari week in October where we raised over $3,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters. We also held the 25th annual Rob Regier Memorial Golf Tournament on October 25, 2024. We were able to raise over $35,000 for the Johnson Cancer Research Center. Both events offered members and alumni the opportunity to support important causes in our community and allowed brothers to come together for a good cause. Kansas Beta received the Excellence in Leadership award at the 2024 Fraternal Experience Award Ceremony. This is a great accomplishment for our Chapter and allows the opportunity to continue to grow and focus on the great things we are doing on campus. The Chapter also submitted our Buchanan Cup application. We have made great progress in 2023 and 2024 and hope to bring home a Buchanan Cup in July at the 2025 Conclave. Dr. Charles Wilson Jr. '62 passed away on March 22, 2024. Charles received his master's and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering at K-State and went on to work as a nuclear engineer. Throughout his career, he worked on related projects for the U.S. Defense Nuclear Agency, Defense Threat-Reduction Agency, and three national laboratories: Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore, and Sandia. Charles was a member of the KSU Foundation board of trustees since 1999 and established several student scholarships within KSU and the Community Foundation of Dickinson County. He left over $500,000 for scholarships at the KSU Foundation, and the residual amount of over $300,000 will reside at SigEp Headquarters. Both of these gifts are earmarked for KS Beta. In addition, he endowed a study room in the rebuilt KSU Hale Library following the 2018 fire and established a fund for upgrades to the nuclear reactor facility at KSU. He was inducted into the KSU Engineering Hall of Fame in 2021. As we look toward the rest of the semester, we are planning a campus-wide speaker as well as many speakers for members in our house. These events offer support to not only our brothers, but also hundreds in our community.
