SMOOTH SAILING NEWS FROM THE BOARD W elcome to the spring edition of the Slice of Pi! My hope is that you will take a moment to consider the wild, joyful, formative, and fun experience your involvement in Gamma Phi gave you every time you open this biannual update. THE GBP EFFECT Almost nine years ago, I joined Gamma Phi Beta as a transfer student. I spent my first year of college in Chicago playing club soccer and doing little else socially. Due to life circumstances, I returned to Nebraska and approached recruitment with a desire to simply make friends beyond my (wonderful!) high school classmates. My experience in Gamma Phi granted me this and much more, including leadership opportunities, social outlets, and lifelong friends. I was married last December, and it was a "pinch me" moment to look around and recognize all that Gamma Phi has given me. (And yes, of course, we did sing "Flip Flop.") WHAT WE'RE UP TO It is the board's goal to support our youngest members and continue to provide a safe and vibrant space for the chapter. We complete yearly tasks such as maintaining our insurance, working as a team with our wonderful home director, Tracie, and providing upkeep to a 1920s era house. Recent projects include installing additional cameras on the property and replacing the front door striker. We also work to stay nimble and financially sound as an organization, especially as the college experience and Greek life evolves. NEW FACES The board is pleased with the recent additions of Ellie Hobelman Harris '16 as public relations vice president and Keeligh Thayn Marr '16 as special projects, a new position created to address the growing challenges in maintaining our historic property. Our goal is for Keeligh to work closely with current Property Vice President Crystal Larsen Kutilek '91. THANK YOU! As a board, we are thankful and acknowledge the time and energy former President Kara Brostrom '10 dedicated to the chapter. She reflected our tradition of sisterhood and service in her role as board president for many years. Thank you, Kara! The board is also immensely grateful to our alumnae for your continued support.
