"It was the hardest job I've ever had, but it set me on a path as a leader in all the organizations I've been a part of during my 30-year career." Jason also became IFC president at Indiana and enjoyed getting to know the other fraternity presidents—though it reinforced his decision to join Lambda Chi Alpha as well. "I was always proud to wear our letters, and the friendships developed there are still thriving today." The Lambda Chi memories are too numerous for one newsletter, but Jason fondly recalls karaoke at Bear's Place, serenades, football tailgates, and Little 500 to name a few. After graduating, Jason spent several years advising the chapter until he married and started a family. "The alumni association liked me because we didn't lose money when I was chapter president, so they welcomed me with open arms." RISK PAYS OFF Jason spent the first 17 years of his career in the long-term care industry. Then Jason's family adopted a 10-year-old boy, gaining another son alongside their three biological children. This led to a difficult-but-necessary career change that would give Jason more family time at home. Since then, Jason has worked for the Verizon Authorized Retailer TCC, where he rose to the executive team and plays a leading role in company sales. "It was a change that didn't make sense to everyone at the time, but the 'why' behind the change was worth it and led both my family and career to success," he said. As many can likely attest, the pandemic also changed Jason's "risk profile." He vowed to say yes to more social events and opportunities, which led to the family moving to Florida. Today, Jason and his wife of 26 years are months away from becoming empty nesters, and they enjoy hitting the beach with their dogs in their free time. "I lead people from a place of authenticity, vulnerability, and caring deeply for those around me," Jason said. When younger leaders ask for his advice, he tells them to pay attention and learn about the people they lead. "Know their spouses' and kids' names, birthdays, anniversaries, and the small things. Paying attention to people and being intentional has served me well over my life and career." THE CONNECTIONS CONTINUE Jason lives in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and looks forward to improving at golf after he retires. He always enjoys a chance to catch up with his Lambda Chi brothers from college. Social media has made that easier, but he always enjoys making a random phone call when old memories come to mind. "Right now, my oldest daughter is dating a former vice president from Alpha Omicron," he added. "I guess Lambda Chi is still in the family." You can connect with Jason at jasonbuck319@gmail.com.
