I t's hard to believe our chapter is celebrating 95 years of continuous operation. It's been nearly a century of lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and our share of tough times! Texas Alpha has always been a great example of the best aspects of Sigma Phi Epsilon and fraternities in general. It's time to celebrate! This April, we will gather at the house for dinner, drinks, and music to celebrate those 95 years the way Texas Alpha does best: having a blast together! This event will also include a memorial for John Tyler '63. On New Year's Eve, Texas Alpha lost one of our very best. John passed away after a lifetime of service and dedication to his family, his faith, and his fraternity. He received almost every recognition the chapter can give for his decades of service, including charter and emeritus membership of the Texas Alpha Foundation, induction into the TXA Hall of Fame, and membership in the Order of the Golden Heart, SigEp's highest honor. I knew John for over 25 years and always marveled at his almost fanatical dedication to his brothers. Always ready with a timeless smile, thoughtful encouragement, and an obscure story from the old chapter house, John had the biggest heart for SigEp I've ever seen. I was blessed to attend his memorial service in January, alongside many Texas Alpha members and brothers from across the country whose lives were wonderfully changed by John. Listening to memories delivered by Bruce Anderson '71, Jeff Loomis '71, and Matt Parrish, Georgia '07, I was struck by his incredible impact on us all. Well done, good and faithful servant. Often, when we gather to celebrate Founders' Day, we honor brothers with an induction into our Hall of Fame. This time, we're going to celebrate John in the ways he would expect: raising a glass and raising some money. The John K. Tyler Balanced Man Scholarship has supported dozens of TXA undergraduates over the years, and it's only fitting we should work to increase the impact of that scholarship. The Foundation Board has set an initial goal to raise $100,000 this year in John's memory to more than double the endowment!
