p. 4 TEXAS ALPHA ACCOLADE LESSONS LEARNED Catching Up with Beau Grenier '14 I originally joined SigEp because of the relationships I had formed with both active and prospective members. As a member, I was proud of how successful we were in the classroom given the amount of fun we had! When I reflect on my time in the chapter house, I cherish memories of living with 20 of my best friends during my senior year. Some of the best summers of my life were those spent in the house during recruitment. I never realized until after I graduated how much I would miss the tailgates before football games! The fact that I could walk into the house and already know there would be something fun going on was unique to that stage of life. As an undergraduate, I decided to pursue a bachelor's degree in economics. While I was in school, I had no idea of what I wanted to do career-wise, but I was drawn to that field because I knew the skills and topics learned would be useful and applicable across various areas in life and business. After graduation, I pursued a career in the insurance industry where I have been for 10 years. I am now a Senior VP for Bowen, Miclette, and Britt Insurance Agency, where I focus on middle- market sales of commercial property and casualty insurance products. "It was hugely impactful to me at the time not only financially but also socially. It helped support me and my family through an expensive time in my life while also giving me the confidence that I was approaching life and making decisions in a way that would be respected by my peers." I still stay in touch with my fraternity brothers almost every day. I live near many of them, and we get together as often as possible over beers, sports, lunch, dinner, and many family celebrations. We go out of our way to create opportunities to get together even with those who live in other cities. SigEp helped shape me into the person I am today by surrounding me with like-minded individuals who had similar goals and dreams. Together, we were able to support each other, keep each other out of trouble and on the right path, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Texas Alpha also provided me with the opportunity to create relationships with mentors in older undergraduates and alumni who were able to guide me in every stage of life, both during and after my time there. Having those examples of success (and failures) set for me has been so valuable for many years. My advice for current undergraduates is to enjoy your time as an active Texas Alpha SigEp and make the most of it. I don't remember every lesson learned in every class, but I still benefit from and cherish the relationships made with SigEp. I currently live in Houston with my wife, Kelsey, my two children, Beau and Madeline, and our golden retriever, Macey. I enjoy golfing, hunting, fishing, cooking, traveling, eating and drinking with family and friends, and watching sports. If you'd like to get in touch, you can send me an email at bgrenier@bmbinc.com.
