Frank Mendicino '62 credits his time with Sigma Alpha Epsilon as transformative, shaping both his personal and professional journey. "I pledged at the beginning of the second semester of my freshman year," Frank recalled. "My best friend from high school had joined in the fall and encouraged me to meet the brothers. With his support, and knowing several members from my hometown of Cheyenne, I decided to join." From the beginning, Frank found himself drawn to the people who made up the Fraternity. "The relationships with my brothers stood out the most," he said. "We also had a fantastic alumni board— active, supportive, but never overbearing." Frank's four years with ΣAE were marked by camaraderie and a shared sense of purpose, memories he cherishes to this day. One particularly fond memory took place during a Homecoming. "We participated in the sing and float competitions," Frank shared. "One year, we won both events. My closest friend, Dave Carmichael '62, led the chorus but told me to work on the float because I couldn't carry a note!" Frank was painted gold and posed as The Thinker atop the float. During his college years, Frank balanced Fraternity life with academics and leadership. "I was selected as student body president, and I'm sure much of that was due to the support of my brothers." After earning a business degree, he joined the Army, and inspired by his friend Dave, he later pursued a law degree. Frank's career has been wide-ranging, including practicing law, serving as Wyoming's Attorney General, and co-founding a venture capital fund. Frank attributes much of his success to the principles instilled during his Fraternity years. "ΣAE's values aligned closely with those my parents taught me. Maintaining those principles has been crucial throughout my life," he said. The friendships he formed through ΣAE have also endured. "Though I'm 85 now, three close brothers are still alive, and our relationships remain incredibly important to me." Staying connected with ΣAE and the University of Wyoming has always been a priority for Frank. "I served on the house corporation board and as chapter advisor," he said. "Even after moving to Northern California, I've attended reunions and visited the house during Homecoming." He also served on the University Foundation Board for 26 years. "Both the Fraternity and the university were significant influences on my life, and I feel a deep sense of gratitude toward them." Now semi-retired, Frank and his wife, Barbara, split their time between Laramie, Boulder, and a fishing village in Mexico. They travel frequently, visit family in Italy, and enjoy time with their three children and six grandchildren. Reflecting on his entire journey, Frank said, "The Fraternity was an important part of my life as I was becoming an adult. I've always felt an obligation to give back, and I'm deeply grateful for the experiences and friendships that ΣAE brought into my life."
