Gaining Confidence to Lead Richard Raleigh '92 on Delta Chi Experiences, Law Career Success Delta Chi became my home away from home, and my Brothers became my family. D elta Chi membership uniquely shapes the lives of every young man that joins the Brotherhood. Richard Raleigh '92 appreciated the sense of home and community within Alabama Chapter, and the Fraternity helped him grow into the responsible man he is today. DELTA CHI DEVELOPMENT "My favorite memories are time spent with others at the house not doing anything important," Rich said. While college life was a huge change, Rich was grateful to make new connections through Delta Chi and bond with Alumni he stays in touch with decades after graduation. As an Undergraduate, Rich found opportunities to serve the Chapter as Pledge Trainer and Vice President. He was also involved with SGA through Senate and Finance Committee roles. Army ROTC was a major aspect of his collegiate career, and Rich eventually became Battalion Executive Officer, second in command, during senior year. CAREER VENTURES Rich served in the U. S. Army after college, spending time in the Balkans during the mid- to-late 1990s. Though it was a violent region at the time, the United States and other nations managed to enforce the Dayton Accord and bring peace to the area. From a young age, Rich was interested in law and government. His ROTC instructor influenced him to take the LSAT, leading to Rich's acceptance into law school and a long career as an attorney in Huntsville. Rich's career has included serving as President of the Alabama State Bar, through which he represented Alabama lawyers while working alongside state and federal political figures. "Two projects I worked on and feel proud of were expanding Veterans Courts in the state and growing the volunteer lawyer programs in the state—pro bono civil legal assistance to persons of limited means." Rich's law firm, Womble Bond Dickinson, opened its first Alabama office two years ago and currently supports aerospace, defense and security contractor clients working with federal government agencies like the Department of Defense, NASA and the FBI. "Leadership opportunities and positions helped me achieve goals in law school, in the Army and now in my law practice. Leadership is about a lot of things, but most importantly, it is about service— always focusing on the mission and supporting your teammates and subordinates." PERSONAL LIFE Rich is married to Shannon, a fellow Alabama graduate and an Alpha Chi Omega. They have twin children who are juniors in high school. The Raleighs stay busy with high school athletics, traveling and spending time with extended family. In his spare time, Rich enjoys fly fishing and keeping up with Crimson Tide sports.
