The Squirrel's Nest 2 M y name is Julia Bonasso '21, and I had the honor of serving as director of Homecoming this year. It was truly an incredible experience getting to see every member of the chapter contribute to winning the Kathleen Cramer Spirit Cup, which is awarded to the overall first place winner! Last year, this was an award we shared with another sorority on campus, but this year we were lucky enough to be the sole winners—for the first time in at least 20 years (and possibly ever!). Alpha Gam won first place in lawn decoration for the third year in a row, first place in bowling, first in Cash for Cans, second in lawn games, second in choreography, most creative choreography, and the choreography People's Choice Award. Winning the Kathleen Cramer Cup is more than just a trophy; it's a testament to the strength and spirit of our sisters. It was such an incredible experience to see our members' dedication on full display during this week. As a senior, I've had the privilege of seeing Psi Chapter receive many awards. This one is particularly special because it reminds us there is always more we can accomplish as a chapter! Loyally, Julia Bonasso '21 CELEBRATING TRADITIONS Susan Jones Driggers '75 Shares How Alpha Gam Shaped Her Crowning Achievement Left: Psi Chapter won the Kathleen Cramer Cup for the second year in a row! And this time, we won it solo. Right: Hannah Adams '21 was crowned 2024 University of Alabama Homecoming Queen! F or Susan Jones Driggers '75, Alpha Gamma Delta sisterhood is deeply intertwined with one of her significant personal achievements—being crowned Miss University of Alabama. It's a title that not only brought her recognition but also shaped her future. "Winning was life-changing," she recalled. "The confidence it gave me, the connections I made, and the opportunities that opened up—all of it made a huge impact on my life." For Susan, winning Miss University of Alabama was an unforgettable moment, but her involvement with Alpha Gamma Delta has been a lifelong source of joy. Her involvement in Alpha Gamma Delta played a pivotal role in helping her achieve that success. As recruitment chairman for two years, she thrived in a leadership role, organizing workshops and rallying the chapter to reach its goals. "I loved recruitment week," Susan said. "The camaraderie and excitement brought everyone together, and it was so fulfilling to see the results of our hard work." Those experiences helped her develop the skills and mindset she needed to win the Miss U of A title. The title was more than just a crown for Susan—it provided a platform that shaped her entire college experience and beyond. "Miss U of A opened doors for me that I never would have imagined," she said. She stayed in touch with executives she met during the process, and after a USO tour in the Far East and Germany, Susan's first "real" job was as assistant director for the Miss Alabama pageant. Susan's sorority sisters also played a big part in her journey. "The support I received from my Alpha Gam sisters meant everything to me," she shared. "I couldn't have gotten through those experiences without them." To this day, she looks back fondly on the friendships she formed in the chapter, friendships that remain strong decades later. "It's the lifelong bonds that define Alpha Gamma Delta for me." Suan lives in Hoover, Alabama, and spends her time singing in the church choir and reading more than 100 books a year. She also helps manage costumes for local high school theater productions. With two daughters of her own who have also joined Alpha Gam, Susan is proud of the part she's played in Psi Chapter's legacy. "It's incredible to see them experience the same sisterhood that shaped me," she said.
