Lyre Letter Alpha Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at Purdue University FALL 2024 T he House Corporation Board was able to make several updates to the Alpha Beta chapter house during summer 2024, thanks to generous donations from loyal sisters, past and present. We began with rebuilding every dresser in the study rooms. After determining that the dressers had excellent bones, the board decided to leave the base of the dressers intact and replace the drawers. The dressers were finished with excellent craftsmanship and now contain soft-close drawers! Our next update involved remodeling the laundry room in the basement. Before this project, the Alpha Beta house was only able to house three washers and three dryers. Now, we can accommodate five stackable washers and dryers. The added units help alleviate the congestion the women were having while they were trying to clean their clothing. Next, we installed a dish-return window in the kitchenette. This pass through allows the dining room to remain free of any dish clearing or cleaning, which upholds a polished look throughout the more formal space. Additionally, small appliances, such as an air fryer, were upgraded in the kitchenette and a custom built credenza was purchased for the dining room. The credenza fulfills the Board's goal of providing a home for items used on a daily basis, while remaining in close proximity to the kitchenette. The next time you are on campus, the House Corporation Board invites each and every one of you to stop by Alpha Chi Omega for a visit! Introduce yourselves to the women in the house and enjoy reminiscing and sharing some of your stories about your time in the sorority house with them. Your support of and dedication to Alpha Beta is why our chapter continues to thrive. Loyally in the Bond, Kelly Taulman Allen '89 florida980206@yahoo.com A lpha Chi Omega's Founder's Day has always been a day to celebrate our sisterhood and the women who we call by first name, as if we had known them our whole lives: Anna, Olive, Bertha, Amy, Nellie, Bessie and Estelle. Thanks to their vision and leadership, we are forever connected in a bond. Time progresses and change is inevitable, but gathering as sisters to enjoy each other and conduct our shared ritual will always be a foundation of our sisterhood and fraternity. Alpha Beta Chapter members and alumnae gathered on Sunday, October 13, for a Founder's Day dinner that incorporated our philanthropy, domestic violence awareness. Undergraduates had not planned or hosted a formal dinner since the pandemic and were eager to revive the tradition. Like always, the dining room was decorated with carnations as white tablecloths draped the heavy dining room tables. The single file entrance and songs, Grace and Toast and Alpha Chi, brought us together as we enjoyed a guest speaker from the local YWCA and heard personal domestic violence stories from chapter members. They also spoke on their resilience and advocacy efforts to combat the issue for women and men alike. Chapter women hosted tours and networked with alumnae in attendance and then shared how nice it was to engage with alumnae and hear about their own traditions and stories. A group of alumnae and the House Corporation Board are working to restock our traditional dishware and stemware for future dinners with the hope of hosting at least one formal dinner each semester. We hope you will be able to join us in the future. If not, please plan a visit to the chapter to share your formal dinner and Founder's Day memories and add to a rich history of shared sisterhood!
