This year, the Delta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma has focused on fostering an inclusive
and welcoming space through our DEI efforts. Going into this position, I wanted to not only
strengthen our values of DEI with one another, but with organizations outside of Kappa. Delta Sigma
has made being the DEI director incredibly easy, as they radiate their kindness and empathy to all.
My hope was to introduce the chapter to diverse organizations so that it would lead to more
friendships outside our community, learning more about our campus, and gaining new, valuable
insights. That's why Delta Sigma has made it a priority this year to become more informed and to
connect with other organizations on campus.
For the entire spring semester I provided the chapter weekly with media that promotes DEI, such as
books, movies, and podcasts. During chapter, I would describe a bit of what the content was about
so the chapter could gain interest and potentially watch, read, or listen to the media in their free
time. I would also provide the chapter with information about DEI-supporting events on campus, as I
feel it is important for Kappa to extend our relationships past the Greek neighborhood.
To support our goal of community outreach, we hosted the president of Oklahoma State University
Best Buddies to come tell us about their organization and how our chapter can get involved. Best
Buddies is an organization that creates friendships for people with disabilities. The chapter received
this presentation incredibly well. Additionally, in the fall semester, we partnered with Zeta Tau Alpha
and Zeta Phi Beta for an event that would open our doors to the entire MGC and NPHC community
for a Make Your Own Float night! The turnout was incredible and by the end of the night, people of
all different chapters were laughing together like old friends.
It is such a blessing to serve for this chapter of empathetic, supportive, and kind women. This
opportunity has only strengthened my love for our chapter and I couldn't be more grateful to call
these women sisters.
