ALPHA CHAPTER OF THETA XI FALL 2024 ALPHABET T he good news is: after four years of lower occupancy caused largely by COVID-19 and related Rensselaer policies, our brotherhood is recovered and our chapter house is again filled to capacity. The bad news is: the increased electrical load resulting from full occupancy has revealed the shortcomings of the last sections of electrical system that were not recently replaced. A house full of brothers with their associated in-room appliances, more powerful computers, and increased use of air conditioning has proven too much for the oldest wiring (with several electrical incidents in the last semester). Upgrading the electrical service to safely meet demand is necessary and our top priority. We've been methodically replacing old wiring and aging breakers with upgrades as needed over the past few years as problems popped up. The board, our general contractor, and our architect believe this final electrical upgrade will make our house safe and ensure sufficient capacity to serve our brothers' electrical needs for years to come. We plan to replace all remaining wires and breakers in the house that were not upgraded in our recently completed renovation project. We've run out of breaker slots in our existing bedroom circuit box, and it's past time to upgrade the box to double its capacity, rewire the remaining 11 rooms that have not been upgraded, and add dedicated 20-amp circuits (for air conditioning or large appliances) to the 17 rooms that do not yet have them. The cost of this priority project is just under $50,000. Your board is exploring options to provide bridge funding to accelerate the repairs. Thank you again for your continued support. We could not maintain and upgrade our house without the support that you and the rest of our brothers continue to provide.
