BETA BETA CHAPTER of ALPHA PHI at MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY Fall 2024 The Ivy The Ivy PASSING THE TORCH TO A NEW HCB TEAM Reflecting on the Work Done Over the Years T his is bittersweet, as this is my last article as HCB President. The HCB team I have served with for the past 10 years is passing the baton to a wonderful new group. Thank you seems far too simple for the work and dedication our HCB has given to Beta Beta, but I will start there. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Connie Goldsmith Crittenden '71, Lorie Fiesselmann Dietz '75, Susan Brink Sherratt '77, and Nancy MacDonald Weinert, Gamma Nu '78 for the many hours of hard work. Thank you for your contribution and dedication to the well-being of Beta Beta. Highlights of the many projects we have worked on: • Completed renovation project on the third- and fourth-floor bathrooms • Renovated the dining room and lower-level storage area • Built a brand-new kitchen, including all-new ventilation • Renovated the first-floor guest bathroom • Redesigned front landscaping and entryway • Redecorated and replaced floors in the formal and Feronian • Managed the house during COVID-19—no easy feat! • Orchestrated a three-day Centennial Reunion • Created and led funding for the Centennial Leadership Fund • Recognized with Michigan Historical Marker for our "firsts" at MSU and in the community Through the years, we have had the wonderful pleasure of working with several house directors, ELCs, and incredible advisors. We have also had a blast getting to know hundreds of women from new initiates to recognized leaders to graduates. We have also had bed bugs, bats, overflowing drains and toilets, rainwater leaks, gutter repairs, and every other household repair known to befall an aging "grand dame" of a house of nearly 85 years. We have laughed and cried with one another, and I would not trade these years for anything. I think Centennial was the icing on top of it all for me—an incredible example of the power of sisterhood over the years! So again, I salute Connie, Lorie, Susan and Nancy. It has been a blast!
