Zeta Remembers a Beloved Sister
Mary Adelia McLeod '57 Enters Chapter Eternal
K
appa Delta is saddened to share the passing of the Rt. Rev. Mary Adelia
Rosamond McLeod '57 on October 12, 2022. She was the first woman
elected as bishop of a diocese in the Episcopal Church. She was selected from
five candidates to be bishop of the Diocese of Vermont on June 5, 1993.
Mary Adelia was a native of Birmingham, Alabama, where she was an active
community volunteer and member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She
attended seminary at The University of the South (Sewanee) in 1980, where
she ranked second in her class. She was ordained a deacon in June 1980 and a
priest in December of that same year. She is remembered for her great strides
in the Episcopal Church, many published influential writings, and service
throughout her life. She embodied the values of KD throughout her career and
personal life. Honorable, beautiful, and highest.
