BUILDING A BETTER BROTHERHOOD THE TOMAHAWK 4 Alpha Mu Chapter I t is with mixed emotions that I am writing this, my last article as president of the Alpha Mu Corporation Board. I have been a board member since fall 1980 and have served as president for many years. It has been my privilege to serve with many brothers as board members through the years. When I first became a board member, Harold Steinbrecher 1924 was serving as board president. As many of you know, Harold was one of the original Mohawk Club members. The Mohawk Club was the predecessor to Alpha Mu Chapter. The foresight of Harold and other Mohawk Club members led to our affiliation with Theta Chi. u ALPHA MU ADVANCEMENTS During my term, I have seen many highs and lows. The mortgage on the 1960s addition and chapter house remodeling was paid off, and a fund was established for future capital improvements. Then, in 1996, the fire destroyed the old chapter house. The board was informed by the company hired to do a feasibility study that our alumni base was not sufficient to rebuild the house. The board pressed on, and through the generosity of many alumni, funds were raised to rebuild. After the house was rebuilt, the chapter underwent a reorganization that reduced Alpha Mu to 15 active members. Since that time, through the efforts of several recruiting chairmen, our chapter has grown to the largest roster in my memory. The mortgage taken to rebuild the house was paid off by a few brothers, and I am happy to report that Alpha Mu is debt-free. u LOOKING FORWARD The concluded capital campaign exceeded the expectations of the board. Thank you to all who contributed. The improvements to the study areas will be an asset to recruitment. The scholarship funds will be a lasting benefit to all future brothers. I am leaving the board with no regrets and many happy memories. I hope to continue to attend the fall tailgate for many years into the future. Maybe I'll see you there.
