IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY | 3 F rom a Provisional Chapter to the newly rechartered Alpha Phi Chapter, Pikes have taken great strides toward becoming a successful fraternity at ISU. We moved back into the house in 2023, which showcased to the entire campus that PIKE was back and ready to make an impact. Living at 2112 has allowed for a place to host social and philanthropy events. We've also returned to hosting chapter meetings and will initiate our first class in the house this fall. We appreciate what the alumni have done to the exterior and look forward to making progress on Phase 2. FALL OUTLOOK This year, we are excited about Homecoming! PIKE will be paired with Delta Zeta and FarmHouse Fraternity, and expectations are as high as ever to be overall champions. Brothers are also looking forward to the chapter's first-ever formal. We are hosting a weekend in Okoboji to relish in the hard work put into the chapter to get us to this point. With motivation and resources at their peak, brothers have begun to raise the bar for PIKE with goals of once again improving our cumulative GPA, a 3.09 this past spring. We also have a goal to increase community service participation and hours given to local organizations. Finally we are showing the Greek community that the Pikes are an upstanding group of gentlemen through our actions and involvement. NEW ERA OF PIKE IS HERE! As PIKE's founding members are approaching their last year at Iowa State, the search for men who will uphold and push forward the ideals and legacy of this fraternity has begun. This year, recruitment has been highly successful in finding promising men to join our brotherhood. Thanks to Recruitment Chairmen Remy Morris '23 and Caden Carr '23, the chapter has welcomed 19 new brothers since spring 2024, many of whom have already undertaken positions on our executive board. Recruitment events such as billiards and bowling and a dodgeball tournament have proved to be successful in finding new members. The chapter also plans to bring back a fan favorite: paintball! The high-stakes, high-energy game has proven to bring the brothers closer together and let the athletes shine among their peers. Fraternally, Luca Cano '23 Chapter President COLLEGIANS EMBRACE NEW ERA OF PIKE Past, Present, and Future SUCCESS F rom the moment he visited PIKE, Caleb Paterson '16 knew he would find fun and friendship living at 2112 Lincoln Way. Various officer and philanthropy roles helped him grow as a leader at Iowa State, and those experiences translated to successful job interviews and future management opportunities. Caleb was determined to stay connected after college, and he happily joined the Alpha Phi Alumni Association when asked. Caleb currently serves as facilitator of 2112 Club Garnet and Gold giving clubs. "These are all supported through monthly alumni donations to fund events, newsletters, and PIKE U event attendance for our undergraduate members," he explained. "I am responsible for keeping in touch with active and past club members, communicating with our donors (including thanking them for their support), and working to recruit new ones." Joining both the Alumni Association board and the capital campaign committee gave Caleb an inside perspective on how necessary 2112: The House That Built Us truly is. As he helped discuss facility planning and saw how determined the undergraduates were to be a top PIKE chapter, he knew he had to donate to the cause. "The house needs work, the chapter needs support, and I wanted to help build an even better PIKE experience than I had," Caleb said. "It's our turn to show current and future Pikes, the Greek community, the university, and the city of Ames that we are—and always will be—a staple of Lincoln Way." Caleb lives in Austin, Minnesota, working as a plant controller at Hormel Foods. His wife, Mackenzie (an Alpha Delta Pi from ISU) is a registered nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Caleb enjoys golf and various physical fitness activities and is highly involved in his local church. In addition to alumni volunteer roles, he frequently sees his era brothers at alumni events, weddings, football games, and other local outings. "PIKE offered me the opportunity to travel, lead, grow, and learn about myself while in college," he said. "The fraternity gave me a network of friends that I would have never had without it. I encourage alumni to strongly consider being involved where they can—whether that's on a board, as a mentor, financially, or by planning and attending events in your era. PIKE really is for life." Helping Pikes Grow Caleb Paterson '16 Believes in Our Brotherhood "It's our turn to show current and future Pikes, the Greek community, the university, and the city of Ames that we are—and always will be—a staple of Lincoln Way."
