p. 2 TEXAS ALPHA ACCOLADE A nother school year is upon us, and the Texas Alpha Education Foundation would like to thank all the brothers who participated in last year's events. We had nearly 200 alumni brothers and undergraduate officers attend our spring happy hours in Austin, Dallas, and Houston! In addition to providing scholarships and educational resources to the undergraduates, creating opportunities for alumni to remain connected and promoting lifelong friendships is one of the primary goals of the Foundation. Thanks to all who were able to join us. ALUMNI SUPPORT MAKES THIS POSSIBLE! All these events are made possible by your continued donations to Texas Alpha Education Foundation. Although it's great that we are actively supporting the National Foundation (see The Belt), we encourage everyone to support Texas Alpha specifically by joining the Skull & Crossbones Society if you haven't already done so. Check out our most recent donors and make sure you have our new giving page written down somewhere on page 4! SEE YOU AGAIN SOON? I hope to see you all at our local happy hours this spring/winter as well as Founders' Day in Austin on April 11-12, 2025 to celebrate 95 years of Texas Alpha. You won't want to miss it! Fraternally, Greg Barra '03 President, Texas Alpha Education Foundation gbarra@boydcommercial.net Keeping SigEps Connected FOUNDATION HOSTS SUCCESSFUL HAPPY HOURS THANKS TO ALUMNI SUPPORT Thursday, May 16, saw dueling happy hours in both Dallas and Houston. True to form, Dallas had a swanky party in Uptown, and Houston had a catastrophic weather event. All kidding aside, both happy hours were well-attended with 50+ brothers joining the festivities at The Rustic Dallas Uptown and the Forest Club in Houston. Eddie King '89 and the Dallas area alumni group continued their long-standing tradition of a great turnout by brothers in the area. A similar-sized group gathered in Houston as well, including OGH John Tyler '63, State Representative Mano DeAyala '89, and many others. Everything was great until that tornado showed up. AUSTIN Attended by over 70 brothers, the Austin happy hour was held at County Line on the Lake on April 4. The chapter welcomed our special guest, National Director Daniel McVeigh, who was in attendance to present the Championship Belt to Texas Alpha for raising the most money in 2023 during SigEp's national Founders Day of Giving. A huge thanks to Jerry Smith '79, Lynn Butler '88, and Doug Jones '05 for being the primary organizers. Brothers enjoying the Austin happy hour. DALLAS AND HOUSTON The Houston happy hour was scheduled for Thursday, May 16, at 5:30 p.m. Little did we know that a tornado and major storm were also scheduled to hit Houston at the same time. A few Texas Alphas braved conditions to show up! A huge turnout for the Dallas happy hour! Continue to develop our philanthropic programming. Schedule beneficial and engaging speakers for chapter meetings throughout the semester. Facilitate further improvements to our facilities. Chapter Goals
