Since our last newsletter, we have lost one of our most distinguished alumni, and this House Corporation's Vice President, Don Wilson '68. Don was an integral part of our House Corporation and will be sorely missed. Neal Carrigan '07 has written an article about Don's life and dedication to Sigma Chi, which you can find on page 4. I had the honor of speaking at a reunion hosted by Walter Allen '73 and Ed Wegener '73 at the Rendezvous restaurant on Saturday, December 16, 2023. This event celebrated the 50th anniversary of their graduation, and a number of their pledge brothers and other alumni attended. Walter and Ed graciously used this as an opportunity to raise funds for the House Corporation, and I am thrilled to tell you that they raised $10,950! A list of the donors is as follows: Jeff Garrety '71, Walter Allen '73, Michael Dreve '71, Ed Wegener '73, Robert Brow '72, Leigh Christopherson '71, William Maxwell '75, Shelly Rice '72, Robert Howard '71, J. Hary Starr '75, and Mike Logan '71. After eating lunch at the Rendezvous, attendees enjoyed watching the Tigers beat Clemson at the Forum. We sincerely appreciate Walter, Ed, and all those who donated. If any other Sigs would like to plan a similar event, I would be happy to speak and provide an update about the House Corporation and the Chapter. Our fraternity house is now 20 years old, and maintenance costs have increased. Additionally, the House Corporation will be refinancing its mortgage in May 2025. As all of you know, interest rates have risen considerably in recent years, and we are unlikely to obtain a rate comparable to our last loan. It is anticipated that our monthly note will increase, and we would appreciate any donations to offset those costs. Donation checks can be made payable to Memphis Sigma Chi Housing Group and mailed to: 4988 Newhaven Avenue Memphis, TN 38117 Keeping our house the best on campus makes me proud to be a Sigma Chi.
