For Ted Dalton '95, fraternal service helped him grow as a leader and understand management responsibilities. As the chief partnership officer for the Boston Celtics, he utilizes those management skills today while helping to grow the business of a championship team. A Fraternal Foundation Ted learned about DKE through fellow members of the football team during his first week on campus. He was interested in joining an organization during freshman year with people from different backgrounds, and Ted appreciated the common bond formed within Gamma Phi Chapter. The DKE brotherhood produced countless lifelong memories that Ted continues to cherish, and he is glad to remain connected with several alumni brothers. "Some of my closest friends and teammates are fellow members—we stay in touch regularly and try to see each other and our respective families as often as we can." As chapter treasurer, Ted took on tasks like managing membership dues and housing payments. Difficult conversations and varying situations helped Ted to develop skills for adapting and managing an organization accordingly. Throughout his undergraduate years, Ted remained committed to helping Gamma Phi Chapter grow and keeping members involved with DKE. Building a Championship Business While Ted was originally interested in finance or investment banking, he pivoted toward the sports business industry and went on to earn a master's degree in sports management at UMass. Ted's career path included positions at Walt Disney Sports/Attractions, ISI/SFX, and 16W Marketing before he joined the Boston Celtics organization in 2005. As the Celtics' chief partnership officer, Ted appreciates the opportunity to continue developing the organization's global commercial business. While the basketball team's 18 NBA championships speak for themselves, Ted and the Celtics' management focuses on strengthening community ties and supporting children and families in need. "My main day-to-day responsibility is to create an environment where everyone in our commercial/partnerships group can succeed, regardless of role, title, or responsibility," Ted said. "Long-term, our goal is to continue to grow our local, regional, and national business across all partnerships (corporate, media, e-commerce, community, etc.) and at the same time, develop our global commercial business." Ted is grateful to work with a world-class sports organization, and he appreciates the DKE experience that in part helped to prepare him for success beyond college. In his personal life, Ted and his wife, Jen, enjoy attending their three sons' school and athletic events. You can connect with Ted at tdalton@celtics.com. Ted (center) holds the Celtics' most recent championship trophy with his family. "It's really a blessing to be involved with the Boston Celtics, and I try to never take it for granted."
