O ur Chapter Advisory Board is happy to report another successful year for Georgia Alpha. In addition to the report here, make sure you see the officers' update on page 3! STATE OF THE CHAPTER e fall 2023 semester began with initiating 30 members. As each of you recall, autumn is a wonderful time in Athens, especially when Coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs complete an unprecedented third-straight undefeated regular season. e chapter had a full social schedule as well as philanthropic achievements. Despite the extracurricular activities, Georgia Alpha also remained one of the top academic chapters on campus. ALUMNI-SPONSORED EVENTS On Saturday, October 21, we hosted a Parents Weekend brunch at the Terry College of Business courtyard. We dedicated the Six Ninety Veranda in 2021 and Terry allowed us to host this event for a second year. is brunch and its setting have become highlights of the weekend and make a favorable impression on our parents as they see our alumni's dedication and the history of our chapter. On November 2, we hosted our annual Founders Day and Golden Legion event at Peachtree Golf Club. Once again, we had a great turnout as we celebrated the brothers initiated in 1974. EDUCATIONAL FUND In January, UGA Foundation awarded grants totaling $25,000 to 10 of our undergraduates! is fund dates to the late 1940s and is the largest Greek-affiliated fund in the university system. anks again to CAB member David Boohacker #2092, who oversees the application submissions and awards granted. WHAT 'S NEXT? We will host our second-annual golf event on Saturday, August 24. CAB member Art Masters # 1727 is coordinating this event at Hard Labor Creek Golf Course starting at 11 a.m. Please reach out to Art (arthurmasters@bellsouth.net or (706) 248- 8417) or myself if you would like to play. Last year's event was a great success, and we anticipate another good turnout this year. Please plan to join us! We will also host our annual Founders Day and Golden Legion ceremony on ursday, November 7 at Peachtree Golf Club from 6-8 p.m. Please contact host John McGoogan #1485 or me with any questions you may have. We anticipate a good turnout and hope you will join us. e highlight will be the Golden Legion ceremony honoring the following brothers initiated in 1975: Charles Hoover Alfred D. Fears Jr. Oliver L. Head #1638 ANNUAL FUND Our annual fund project this year will be a patio renovation at 130 Greek Park Circle. We are working with UGA and our contractor to get plans approved and finalized. We hope to begin this project as soon as we have the approvals and permits in place.. e patio will be dedicated in memory of Bill Hopper #1711, who served as both president and adviser to Georgia Alpha. anks to those of you who have supported our annual fund! See a full list of donors on page 2. We need additional support to complete this project and hope you will consider donating or increasing your existing giving level. We aim to have the dedication event this fall during a home football game weekend. Keep an eye out for more details on this project!
