"I found the members to be interesting, welcoming, and smart," she said. "And I must admit that I was influenced by my three older sisters, whom I greatly admired and who were all Kappas." Loretta developed lifelong friendships at Kappa. She learned how to live with others and work on projects together, and she developed leadership skills that have been useful throughout her life. As an undergraduate, Loretta had the opportunity to serve as chapter president. After, she was asked to be a field secretary (now leadership consultant) for national. That year, Loretta visited around 30 campuses, where she met outstanding undergraduates and provided summaries of her visit to headquarters. "It was a terrific experience and I learned much about the wide range of chapters in our organization, the many divergent views about sorority life, and how the national organization accommodated and welcomed the many perspectives," she shared. "I was inspired by the undergraduates I met and also by the many alumnae and national Kappa leaders who gave so much of themselves." After she finished serving in this capacity, Loretta received a graduate counselor scholarship from Kappa and earned her MBA from the University of Colorado. Throughout much of her career, Loretta has worked for Wall Street firms, including American Express and OppenheimerFunds. She has always cared about the opportunities and challenges of professional women. Today, she is the co-CEO and managing partner of Golden Seeds LLC, a nationwide investment organization that provides funding to high-potential women-led startups. Over 20 years, Golden Seeds has invested over $180 million in 250 companies in its determination to level the playing field for women. "Women entrepreneurs often face challenges in raising capital for their companies," she said. "Golden Seeds has addressed this by attracting a large national network of investors who appreciate the potential of women entrepreneurs and by actively meeting with and funding promising companies." Loretta lives in New York and enjoys its many cultural attractions. She also owns a home near Scottsdale, where she loves connecting with her many friends and family members. Loretta has remained connected to Kappa and Gamma Zeta over the years and has supported the sorority both locally and nationally. She also gave to Kappa's recent capital campaign. "Gamma Zeta has done a remarkable job maintaining and expanding the chapter house," she said. "I admire those who have devoted so much time and effort to ensure that our undergraduates have such a beautiful and welcoming home." Several years ago, Loretta was asked to speak to members of Gamma Zeta, and she recalls urging them to get involved in chapter activities, as it offers a great laboratory for testing your interests and skills.
