Washington Alpha Delt Washington Alpha Delt e e A PUBLICATION OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ALUMNI OF ALPHA DELTA PHI • SUMMER 2024 T his passage is taken from "Memorial of Samuel Eells," which was compiled and edited by his brother, James, and published in 1873. Shame on me for learning something new about our Founder 40 years after I thought I already knew it all. This quote caught my attention because of undergraduate members I recently met and our distinguished and varied Alumni Association. Alpha Delta Phi at UW has always proudly associated with the origination story of the organization as a "literary society." But even 192 years ago, one of Samuel Eells' key founding principles included the diversity outlined in the quote above. Is it not surprising that Brother Eells' vision has never been truer than it is now? Economics, information systems, business, microbiology, and communications are just a few of the paths our undergraduates pursued as they earned top-five academic achievement status in fall 2023. And, as always, having a high GPA while maintaining the responsibilities and duties expected of our fraternity members is no easy feat and worthy of recognition. JOIN OUR MENTOR PROGRAM The range of our members' interests is also evidenced by board members David Gilluly '13 and Zach Williams '13, who are now several months into a new mentorship program they designed to connect alumni with undergraduates interested in their career fields. The initiative includes one-on-one activities, group presentations, and post-dinner chat events by industry and affords alumni several forums in which to assist in the career goals of our undergraduate Brothers. If their efforts interest you, please contact David or Zach about getting involved. No matter how much or little time you can spare, your outreach will be greatly appreciated by your undergraduate Brothers. I am delighted to be able to highlight such an exciting program. After the hassle of moving, remodeling, and rebuilding, the adjustments we made that needed time to settle are finally taking hold. MAKE A CONTRIBUTION Financially and operationally, we are almost there! Thanks to the diligent effort of our new treasurer, Tracy Edgers '80 (and with a supportive assist from former Treasurer Grant Osberg '80), we expect to be in a sustainable operational position for the start of fall 2024. It will be a close call, however, and that expectation does not factor in our long-term goal of recapitalizing the Foundation Fund so we can offer need and achievement-based scholarships every quarter. Your continued (or renewed) interest, engagement, and support of our alumni organization and our undergraduate members is still a vital and perpetual request. Please consider what you can offer in time, talent, and/or treasure. Any contribution can be a driving force in a membership organization like this one. There is no limit to what we can contribute and achieve for, and with, our Brothers!
