Alpha Mu News Alpha Mu Chapter of Kappa Delta at the University of Mississippi | Summer 2024 O n Sunday, April 28, Alpha Mu House Corporation and Oxford Alumnae Association hosted our second Mother/ Daughter Alumnae Brunch. Guests were greeted with colorful balloons adorning the grand staircase and beautiful spring flowers throughout the house. Our staff prepared a delicious meal that included homemade shrimp and grits, salad, spinach quiches, asparagus wraps, fruit, yogurt parfaits, chicken tenders, macaroni and cheese, KΔ iced cookies, and the most popular item—the classic KΔ Green Drink! This famous drink was served for many years during the skit round of recruitment. We were excited to share it with our young daughters and even some collegians who had never tried the drink, and it was a hit! The brunch was held on a very busy weekend on the Ole Miss campus. Between the Double Decker festival and Ole Miss baseball, the campus and town of Oxford were packed. We were so pleased that more than 100 people joined us for the fun, and we look forward to seeing even more alumnae and daughters next year. From collegiate members to mothers and grandmothers, we loved seeing so many generations of Kappa Delta women! Thank you to the planning committee, Dr. Julie Golden Harper '91, Margaret Anne Beech Alias '98, Suzanne Herron Helveston '99, and several Chapter members for creating a special event for our alumnae. Enjoying a Lively Day in Oxford ANOTHER FANTASTIC MOTHER/DAUGHTER ALUMNAE BRUNCH Stacy Joseph Reeves '10 brought her daughters to attend our brunch gathering. We enjoyed seeing so many KΔ alumnae at our second annual brunch event! Attendees of all ages had a great time at brunch. "I grew up in Nashville, so I like to think country music is in my blood. I couldn't escape it even if I wanted to," Lauren Watkins '17 said. Lauren grew up singing with her sister, Caroline, and started writing songs when she got to college. "Those Ole Miss boys broke my heart so good I couldn't get through it without writing songs!" Though Lauren wasn't sure music was going to be her path while at Ole Miss, her Kappa Delta sisters encouraged her, giving her the confidence to do gigs that were crucial to getting her to where she is now. "Kappa Delta as a whole inspires girls to really go after what they know they're made to do," Lauren shared. "I saw that happen not just in my own story but in my friends who wanted to be nurses, or in fashion, or politics. I'm so proud of all my fellow KΔs living out their purpose." Lauren fell in love with making her own music in college and knew she wanted to perform the songs she was writing. As a singer, she has loved connecting with people. "I love writing a song in a room with my closest friends and then getting Country Artist Lauren Watkins '17 ON HER PASSION, HIGHLIGHTS, AND CHALLENGES Made for Music (Continued on page 2)
