\\\\\\\\\\\\ NEW Mentorship Program \\\\\\\\\\\\ Active Chapter Member Mentors, Young or More "Experienced" Alumni, Wanted! As many of you are aware, a couple of years ago (two officer transition cycles ago) the Board of Trustees imple- mented a Board of Trustees-to-Gamma Gamma Chapter elected officer mentoring program designed to help the new officers transition into their new roles, develop as leaders, and help the Chapter improve by excelling in their elected assignments. The Board was very pleased with the initial receptivity by the officers as well as the accelerated devel- opment of a very young officer group and that was further validated in a wide-ranging survey of the outgoing elected officers this past December. Given the success of that effort, the outgoing officers asked if we could extend that pro- gram to other non-officer actives. While we were thrilled at the request, we realized that the 14-member Board of Trustees did not have the bandwidth to take on more than the current and previous officers who we were already mentoring or were continuing to mentor in many cases. Dave Clauss, '88, currently a global operations director for 3M, recently joined the Board particularly because he looked forward to continuing to mentor young talent, volunteered to head the broader chapter mentoring program. He is working closely on the effort with Ryan Nelson, '26, who is the current chapter Alumni Relations Officer. Approximately 16 undergraduate brothers, primarily underclassmen having non-executive officer roles, have indicat- ed an interest in working with an alumni mentor. We are developing a list of interested alumni who can be matched either geographically, or by a number of potential common interests, and currently have about two-thirds the number of alumni mentors that we need, so far ranging from the class of 1970 to the class of 2020. We anticipate an alumni mentor would need to devote somewhere between 8 and 12 hours per year, with maybe an initial couple hour in- person (if feasible) session to get to know the undergraduate member followed by perhaps a 60-90 minute phone call every other month or as desired and initiated by the student. The gist of the mentor role is to help these young men think through, for themselves, the pros and cons of various options, whether they be career choices, other academic interests, or how to navigate other issues they are facing and are looking for a brother who has experienced similar choices in their lives who might be able to ask the right questions. If you have interest, please contact Dave Clauss at dclauss2649@gmail.com or on his cell phone at (715)-307-7823. For those of us that have had the experience of mentoring these young actives, it not only can be extremely rewarding for both parties but is a great way to reconnect and contribute to the Chapter's ongoing success! Initiation in the White Chapel in January with BoT and Alumni
