PSI SOONERS 4 C arolyn Sullivan moved to Norman a little over seven years ago. She met Psi Chapter's retiring house director at church, who asked her if she would be interested in taking over. Already familiar with sorority life, as she had a daughter and granddaughter previously in houses at the University of Oklahoma, Carolyn said she would love to. She is now in her seventh year as one of Psi Chapter's devoted house directors. "My goal each day is to make this the best year of each woman's college experience. I want them to be excited to be here." Each day is different for Carolyn's duties. She typically keeps the snack room well-stocked, makes sure any repairs or maintenance is complete, oversees the kitchen and cleaning staff, and makes sure adequate supplies are purchased each week. She and her co-director, Linda, enjoy decorating for each holiday. They have also started asking the chapter's many talented singers to perform at formal dinners and during karaoke. "I think the most wonderful part of this job is watching the girls bond and make lifelong friends," Carolyn shared. "The love they express for each other as they leave for class each day makes my day." Outside of serving as house director, Carolyn leads a busy life. She picks her granddaughter up from school and is very active in her church and community activities. She is also part of a walking group of 10 women and seven dogs; they walk every day and meet for lunch each month and for birthday lunches. Carolyn is proud to serve as house director. "This has been the most amazing time in my life working with this governing board and getting to watch these young women complete their education and knowing how successful they will be in the future." You can connect with Carolyn at ccsully@cox.net. "M y grandchildren were in sororities throughout their college careers," Linda Moore shared. "They found support, made lifelong friendships, and learned skills to help them navigate college life. It was then I first began to think about becoming a part of the Greek community as a house mom." Linda has been serving as the night house director for two years. Her day begins at 5 p.m.; she sleeps at the house and shares dinner and breakfast with the members. "I really like dinners with the girls talking about their day and learning more about them." Linda's primary duties are the safety and well-being of the members. She checks to make sure the outside doors are secured in the early and late evening, looks for safety issues in the house, and is there to help the women with anything they may need. "I maintain an open-door policy to my suite, no matter the issue or need. They are always welcome." Linda has a few simple goals for Psi Chapter: • Create memorable and happy experiences for each member of Gamma Phi. • Increase our membership by contributing to the good vibes of the house and members. • Provide a safe environment for the girls to grow. Serving as house director has given Linda many wonderful experiences. She loves supporting the members in their activities such as their Scandals and University Sing rehearsals and flag football games. She hosts a Halloween party for the members that includes a movie night and greets guests on Date Night. "I love seeing them all dressed up and excited about the party. They are beautiful inside and out." Linda loves helping the parents' club whenever needed and enjoys decorating the dining room for the holidays with Carolyn. She has also enjoyed getting to know the other house directors at OU. "My favorite experience so far is getting to meet these beautiful, talented, studious, and smart young women," she shared. When she's not serving Psi Chapter, Linda loves being with her family. Her granddaughters are at various stages in life and are starting their careers. One is married and is pregnant with Linda's first great- grandchild. "I am looking forward to holding a baby again." During the day, Linda does interior design for several clients, doing seasonal decorations and updating their homes. She is currently designing a lake house. You can connect with Linda at lwhitaker.lindawhitaker@gmail.com.
