TAU CHAPTER OF THETA CHI FRATERNITY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA TAU TOPICS Spring 2024 A fter a Fall recruitment week complicated by a hurricane delay, Tau Chapter began new member education with over 55 new members! We ultimately guided 50 of the recruits through a new, safe, and effective path to initiation. Additionally, the Chapter successfully hosted brothers, alumni, guests, and Panhellenic women at six different Gators football tailgates. We also traveled to New Orleans for the Gators' biennial away game against LSU, hosted a successful Homecoming week with Kappa Delta, and once again partnered with Alpha Phi Alpha (an NPHC, historically Black fraternity) to host our annual Chicken and Waffles fundraiser. Philanthropy has always been a priority for our Chapter. This year, we are happy to continue the tradition of our strong philanthropic presence with sandbOX, the annual Greek life volleyball tournament supporting the United Service Organization. Last year, I was the captain of a UF Relay for Life team supporting Gold Together for Childhood Cancer, which raises funds and awareness for childhood cancer. Socially, we have successfully courted Zeta Tau Alpha for Homecoming 2024. Our intramural basketball team reclaimed its championship title, and our soccer team also took home the first- place trophy. These wins positioned us well to hopefully win UF's Presidents Cup, awarded to the Greek organization with the most intramural wins. We continue to be leaders on campus with Jack Levy '21, Luke Holderman '20, and Justin Jones '21 being initiated into Florida Blue Key leadership honorary during the Fall 2024 semester. ARE YOU PITCHING IN? In 2024, we entered a rebuild phase for Tau Chapter and are working toward successfully navigating UF and IHQ sanctions. Over the next year, the Chapter will redesign several of our core functions (recruitment, new member education, standards and accountability, etc.) while preserving Chapter traditions. We have many short- and long-term goals; if any alumni would like to volunteer their time, please contact me or Brad Jones '96 at bradjonesuf@yahoo.com. Finally, I would like to thank Tom Freeberg '78 for his service, lessons, and dedication as Chapter advisor over the past several years! We are excited to announce Graham Glover '92 as our new Chapter advisor, and we look forward to working with him through the foreseeable future. Congratulations to Brothers Justin Jones '21, Jack Levy '21, and Luke Holderman '20 on being tapped in Florida Blue Key's Fall 2023 Tapping Class. Taus precipitated in a "Mental Minute" weekly mental health program, run by Jesse Simmons '22, which provides brothers a space to discuss important mental health topics.
