VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY SPRING 2024 Updates from Indiana Zeta E N H A N C I N G A LU M N I C O M M U N I CAT I O N S AVC Introduces New Indiana Zeta Newsletter I ndiana Zeta AVC is running strong with 15 board members and eight mentor board members all currently engaged in activities supporting the undergraduate chapter and our alumni. This past January, the AVC Board met in Valparaiso for our second in-person planning session. We continue to invest in the undergraduates, granting $23,000 to chapter leadership opportunities and educational events during the 2022-23 school year. The investment of time and resources to the chapter was recognized with Indiana Zeta receiving the Sunago Mentorship Excellence Award at Carlson Leadership Academy in Chicago earlier this year. In addition to routine maintenance of the chapter house at 705 Mound Street, we've focused heavily on improving operational efficiency with the undergraduates. This includes new tools for rent and dues collection, formal budgeting, and a new process to collect requests from the undergraduates. On the alumni side, we continue to publish quarterly email newsletters and are adding biannual mailers (like you're reading now!) via an initiative sponsored by SigEp HQ. Our goal is to increase awareness of the chapter's ongoing success as well as maintain support for the future. We welcome you all to join one of our quarterly all-alumni calls. Dates will appear in these newsletters and will be sent via email. We appreciate your time in reading this update and encourage you to share it with the brothers you're in touch with. The chapter continues to achieve at a high level, and we thank our alumni for their support of this success! Fraternally, Tyler Ingersoll '17 Vice President, Indiana Zeta Alumni Volunteer Corporation avc-vicepresident@valposigeps.org Recent Research Reinforces the Importance of Greek-Letter Organizations A recent study found that fraternity and sorority members were more likely to succeed in college and beyond than their non-Greek peers. They are three times more likely to obtain an internship while in college and two times more likely to have a job waiting for them when they graduate. Students spend 90% of their time outside the classroom. SigEp and other Greek- letter organizations capitalize on those hours by preparing men for success in college and in their futures far beyond what their peers experience. 83% of members say their confidence in their leadership skills increased because of their membership. A study of thousands of alumni of diverse backgrounds shows this holds true regardless of an individual's background or socioeconomic status entering college. Behind every great organization is a group of valuable volunteers. Because of higher expectations, as well as the support and network fraternities provide, members experience greater gains in learning and graduate at higher rates than their peers. Volunteers and alumni are that support, and SigEp could truly not do this incredible work without that support. Interested in volunteering with SigEp?
