A fter growing up as the only boy of five children, I became aware of the Iowa State Greek system as a high school senior I received letters from numerous fraternities inviting me to come visit for Greek Week A high school friend and I went down together to visit; we ended up staying at the Theta Chi house As a result of that weekend visit, my life changed in many ways I went from having no brothers to having many brothers—and lifelong friends I met my wife at the wedding reception of a fraternity brother The campus was much different in 1969 than it is today The first football game I attended was at Clyde Williams Stadium, situated west of Friley Hall on the north side of Lincoln Way Capacity was less than 30,000 Basketball games and wrestling meets were held in the Armory; it was a very loud venue My fraternity brothers and I attended the first basketball game ever held in Hilton Coliseum Stephens Auditorium was brand new Tuition was $200 per quarter and our house bill was $110 per month How times have changed Other fond memories of my time in the fraternity include building a winning lawn display, sorority serenades, late-night bull sessions, Friday afternoon clubs, woodsies in the country, hog roasts, and spring formals One thing that hasn't changed after 55 years is the strength of our brotherhood That strength is shown by the support of so many alumni for our capital campaign Thank you to all who have contributed Your support helps keep our fraternity strong Fraternally, Ted Hovda '73 President, Alumni Corporation Board tshovda@comm1netnet "I chose Theta Chi for the awesome people in the chapter. Every single person I've met has been extremely welcoming, easy to talk to, and always willing to offer help whenever someone needs it. The chapter has an awesome culture of working hard and giving back to the community." –Ross Muhlbauer '27 "I joined because I felt a strong community within the chapter. Coming from a small town, this was very important to me, and I could tell the guys really looked out for each other." –Tyson Ross '27 "The sense of brotherhood is really something special. I could tell from early recruitment that everyone in this fraternity not only liked each other, but they genuinely wanted the best for all of their brothers. That kind of bond is unique to Theta Chi, and having that kind of support system by your side at all times is something I think everyone should have in their life." –Will Seemiller '27 W H Y T H E TA C H I ?
