Cornell Alpha Beta Alumnae Alpha Beta Data Spring 2024 Spring 2024 W elcome to our spring 2024 newsletter! I hope this message finds you enjoying buds that are starting to blossom, young people who are planning for a return home, plans for some summer vacations, and generally a lightening of your heart and our world. For Tri Deltas who don't know me, I'm Heather Britt, the new and also returning House Corporation president. I held this role a few years back, before Judy Fox '72 took it on and did a marvelous job getting us to a great place as a board and as a corporation. I'm glad to be returning for a little while as we continue to add new members to our board and grow leadership interest among our alumnae. I'm a class of 1993 graduate from CALS and live in St. Paul, MN. I'm the executive director of a community-based research organization, Wilder Research, and I have two college students: one a junior at Cornell (and studying abroad at the University of Edinburgh this spring) and one a freshman at Cal Berkeley. During the pandemic, I got a chance to reconnect with my dearest Deltas (Katie, Heather T., and Deanna) and have enjoyed spending more time with them and more time with many of our alumnae in our get-togethers around the country. What's up with House Corporation over the next few months? Well, the "regular stuff" you might call it—continuing to build robust assets to support our collegians and our house, supporting the ever-evolving upgrade needs of the house, and strengthening our relationship with the national advisors for our chapter. A couple of our House Corporation "regulars," Cristina Moeder Shaul '91 and Jen Joyce Barber Kean '93, have both stepped into national advisory roles for the chapter. We're excited about being connected to active alumnae who are supporting the chapter from the national advisor perspective and really excited that they're close friends of the House Corporation, an arrangement we hope will continue to benefit our collegians. You can bet that reconsidering the national model bylaws will be part of our ongoing discussions, as well as continuing to thoughtfully steward the assets we've built over the years meant to support our house and our collegiate chapter. More to come as we share how our relationship-building is going, how our support for our collegians continues to expand, and how you can get and stay involved with Alpha Beta! Delta Love, Heather Britt '93 House Corporation President Updates from the House Corpora on S U P P O R T I N G T H E T R I D E LTA H O U S E O ur Tri Delta residence continues to be a popular and well- loved option for our members. After this year's successful bidding, we expect to have 33 in-house members. We continue to receive positive feedback about living in, and our home is a competitive option on campus. Updates are planned to maintain this standing, of course, and alumnae gifts can support these efforts. We plan to acquire additional furnishings to accommodate this year's needs and to enhance some units with higher-quality dressers and armoires. Periodic upgrades like refreshing the first-floor public restroom support our commitment to a quality residential experience. Routine maintenance, such as painting and repairs, is key to maintaining attractive surroundings and resident safety. Our maintenance contractor, Ruff Maintenance, continues to ensure the house complies with both the city of Ithaca building and fire codes. We wish Jeanne Ruff the best as she transitions the business to leadership by her son, Nathaniel, over the coming months. She and her husband, Dave, have served our house for at least a decade. You may wonder, "How does House Corporation know what to update?" "Who decides what needs to be done?" House Corporation has a long history of seeking professional expertise and guidance on our building needs. Our last professional evaluation was completed in 2015 and outlined short-, mid-, and long-term project needs. Structural improvements and mechanical maintenance are emphasized. We are pleased to report that we have completed the projects identified (and more!) in our last plan.We are excited to be able to enlist Taitem Engineering again in the year ahead to identify and plan for future needs. It's a pleasure to support the maintenance of the Tri Delta house and see women making memories in a home filled with incredible history and happiness too. As we continue to initiate projects, your donations will make a difference. Consider a gift today to support House Corporation!
