2 Delta Kappa Epsilon Full Strength for the Full Year The brothers of Gamma Phi continued the momentum set by Chris Guttman '23 and his class of revivers by hitting the ground running last fall. With 49 members, Gamma Phi aspires to influence campus life in all ways possible this year—in athletics, in academics, socially, and through philanthropy initiatives. While some of our plans have evolved, the chapter is determined and excited to once again strive on a campus that once sought out Greek life's end. Academic and Athletic Success Wesleyan football finished the 2023 season at 6-3 and won their second consecutive Little Three title. The junior quarterback, Vice President Niko Candido '25, headed the star-studded Wesleyan offense. He received the New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award, given to the top DII/III player in New England for the week, after his stellar performance against Williams that allowed him to go 365 yards on 24-for-48 passing. Accompanying Candido on the offensive end were Liam Reardon '24, Ryan Caserta '25, Will Aaronson '25, Mario Lee '25, Ricky Eng '25, and Will Livingston '25, who all played crucial roles in a Wesleyan offense that ranked fourth in scoring in the NESCAC. Senior veterans Colton Weier '24, Patrick Boujokos '24, and Joseph Schaefer '24 led the Cardinals defensively, but Ben Carbeau '25, Mike Rowan '25, and Declan Welch '26 further cemented their roles in Cardinal history. Consistent performances allowed Ben and Declan to receive All-NESCAC first and second-team honors, respectively. Niko and Ben will serve as two of the four captains for the Cardinals as they enter the 2024 season. While countless brothers supported the Cardinals last fall, 15 brothers received All-NESCAC Academic Honors, which are awarded to student-athletes in good athletic standing with above 3.5 GPAs. Just across Wyllys Avenue, Zack Burd '25 and I (Colin Campbell '25) led the men's soccer team to their first Little Three title in 12 years. Zack, a three-year starter for the team, scored two free-kick goals to help secure the title for the Cardinals. Both of us were recognized as NESCAC All-Academic recipients, while I received the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship award for the team. Zack also received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team honors, and I will serve as one of the captains for the 2024 fall season. Caring for Our Community Gamma Phi's fall semester was packed with philanthropy initiatives. To start the semester, the football team raised awareness by running Team ImPACT's annual 5K. Shortly after, our Homecoming t-shirt sales and 50/50 raffle were a huge hit, as we raised and donated over $750 to the Amazing Grace Food Depository. On Veteran's Day, the fraternity held a "Hoops for Troops" 3-on-3 basketball tournament and donated over $250 to The Wounded Warrior Project. Around the holidays, brothers volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul Middletown Soup Kitchen and the Middletown Fire Department, helping firefighters and Wesleyan Public Safety Officer Kathy Burdick wrap gifts before Christmas for at-need children in Middletown. Thank you, alumni, for rooting for us as we continue to grow closer as brothers, give back to our community, and mature as individuals!
