This was a shock and unexpected. Spencer had emergency brain surgery and the neoplasm was removed. MRI indicated that Surgeons were successful with the total removal of what they specifi ed was cancer. Captain Hess will be enduring chemotherapy as well as radiation treatment and more testing over approximately the next 6 months or more. This will be one of the largest fi ghts of his life for the Air Force veteran, but he will win! His wife and three children are by his side pro- viding encouragement as are the rest of his fam- ily and Fire Department siblings. Medical expenses for all his treatment will be tens of thousands, their cost, with deductibles and prescriptions not covered by insurance. This will add additional stress to the family, as Captain Hess is the sole provider and may not be able return to work for many months. A UPDATE from Spencer and his wife Britney: We'd like to take a moment to express our heart- felt gratitude. Thank you all for the incredible support over the past two weeks. Words alone can't convey our appreciation, but please know that every gesture means the world to us. Your Quartzsite Fire Capt Spencer Hess fundraisers prayers, good wishes, and love are truly sus- taining us through this challenging time. As we look ahead to the upcoming week, it marks another step in our journey. We have a follow-up appointment scheduled with Spen- cer's neurosurgeon, and we're hopeful that his recovery from surgery has progressed enough to begin consultations with the oncology team. Additionally, we anticipate receiving the full pathology report on his tumor, which will allow us to get with his team to formulate a plan for his chemotherapy and radiation treatments. For those who know Spencer, you know that he's not one to sit still for long. He's eager to tackle whatever lies ahead. While he may not have his phone, I try to make sure he gets ev- ery message of support to him, and he's deeply grateful, as are we both. The knowledge that we have an entire community rallying behind us is incredibly comforting and uplifting. Truly means the world to our family. Donate online: https://gofund.me/bad96e44.
