A SLICE OF PI GAMMA PHI BETA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN • SPRING 2024 T his September, my husband and I were blessed with the addition of our newest family member, a baby girl who joins her big sister. Even with a good faith attempt at being prepared and relying upon what I believed to be experience, I yet again underestimated it all. To say we are a little bit of a hot mess is an understatement. During my maternity leaves, I reflected on many things. During my first, I remember thinking as an alumna about the impact and pride of my undergraduate experience, and then imagining my daughter in a sorority prioritizing academics while simultaneously giving back to the community and forming lifelong relationships of her own. This leave, I had the opportunity to reflect on something more recent—those connections made after my undergraduate experience of Pi Chapter and based solely on the fact that I am an alumna. When I talk with anyone and mention that I am a Gamma Phi, the conversation immediately launches into a female family member that was also a Gamma Phi or how my professional connection is furthered based on the reputation of Pi Chapter. I am grateful for the continued connections Gamma Phi provides well into my adult life. Now, I'm back to work and bringing an update on our chapter house! Unfortunately, at the beginning of this semester, we were faced with the challenge of water in the basement. Due to the dedication of our undergraduate leadership and many members of our Affiliated House Corporation Board, we were able to address the issue expeditiously with minor impact to the house itself and, more importantly, while also ensuring that a safe living space was maintained for our current members. Following this spring semester, we will complete facelift items on the exterior of our home, including windows and shutters. If you have an opportunity to drive by the house, please check out the new awning on the north side of the building. The board is prepared for the inevitable projects that consist of repairs and general maintenance; however, the board is also beginning to plan and strategize on larger projects. We are well aware of the improvements taking place at other sorority houses on campus and are keeping in mind the continued challenges faced by sororities. Even with these challenges, Pi Chapter remains strong and has a bright future ahead. As always, the board remains grateful for your continued support and dedication to Pi Chapter—whether time or monetary. In IIKE, Kara E. Brostrom '09 REFLECTING ON PI CHAPTER AS AN ALUMNA How Our Connections Continue after Campus R eferences have always been a valuable way for a Gamma Phi Beta to introduce a potential new member to our chapter.
