ALPHA MU GROWS THE SISTERHOOD AND GETS INVOLVED WITH THE COMMUNITY Celebrating Successes Alpha Mu News Alpha Mu Chapter of Kappa Delta at the University of Mississippi | Winter 2024 Le: Congratulations to our Pi Kappa Phi inductees! From le: Lydia McKissick '21, Embry Hollowell '21, Meredith Whited '21, Megan Bundren '21, McKenzie Cox '22, and Kate Dragna '21. Right: Our wonderful new members and amazing senior CASA Encore coaches before an incredible win! K appa Delta Alpha Mu had an incredible fall semester! We revamped our academics, increasing our tutoring provisions and celebrating even more academic successes. We expanded tutoring services to over 60 members this semester and added shoutouts to our sisters for their academic achievements each week at chapter. The new member experience through Alpha Mu has also been an outlet for success. Directly after Bid Day and leading into initiation, active members built strong bonds and instilled our trusted values by immediately getting new members immersed in the sorority. Multiple ways to get involved within the Chapter and on campus were presented to new members to encourage growth as a pledge class and as an entire Chapter. With a welcoming and inclusive environment, the new members have transitioned into the Kappa Delta family! We also participated in the University of Mississippi Panhellenic's CASA Encore philanthropy event this past September. This event consists of a fundraising and dance competition in which all money is donated to CASA of North Mississippi. Kappa Delta raised over $60,000 for CASA and took home the trophy for Overall Winner of CASA Encore! In addition to participating in CASA, we also had the honor of hosting the Girl Scouts and Miss Mississippi Vivian O'Neal. The Girl Scouts learned about makeup application, but most importantly, they were educated on what it means to be confident. It was delightful to spend time with the girls. Every event with the Girl Scouts means so much to our Chapter; we walk away with our hearts full after the time spent and conversations had. In November, we hosted Harvest Hop, a fun 5K for family, friends, and the community. Everyone gathered to run the 3.1 miles around our campus while being cheered on by our members. There was also a one-mile course for kids that was guided by Kappa Delta women. The event was enjoyed by all and was a huge success that raised over $49,000! We are beyond grateful for those who donated, sponsored, and participated in the event. We are so thankful to serve Prevent Child Abuse America through events like Harvest Hop. It means so much to our Chapter to know that we can make even a small impact. Love in AOT, Josie Austin '20 Past Chapter President Pictured above: Oxford Kappa Delta Alumnae Association hosted a mixer for alumnae and members of Alpha Mu at the KΔ house. Active members were able to meet and network with local Oxford alumnae. Attendees participated in a "speed dating" exercise to learn more about each other and identify similar interests. All enjoyed KΔ cookies and refreshments! W e are finalizing names for the donor wall plaque that will be displayed in the Alpha Mu Chapter House dining room. All donors who pledged $2,500 or more will be recognized. We recently emailed the donor list to our alumnae and asked donors to confirm their listings. If you did not receive this email and/or still need to verify your listing, please contact Whitney Jones Byars at wwbyars@bellsouth.net. If you have not made a pledge to the campaign and would like to do so to be recognized on the donor wall, please contact Avary Base at abase@penningtonco.com. Please note that to be included on the donor wall, your pledge payments must be current. If you have questions about the status of your pledge, please contact Avary at the email above. Thank you to everyone who has caught up on past-due payments! Finally, there has been some confusion about the year to be used with donor names. Your initiation year should be used; not your pledge year. We have obtained initiation records from national Kappa Delta and will confirm that everyone's initiation year on the donor wall plaque is correct.
