Page 2 Beta Rays BROTHERHOOD PERSISTS A look at our new hardwood floor in the All Brothers Room. Our new living room furniture. B eta Chapter had a busy fall semester despite the continuing recovery from the December 2022 flood. Thankfully, with the help of alumni gifts, many projects have been completed or are in progress. Recently, the All Brother Room (formerly known as the TV Room) received new flooring thanks to the efforts of Carter Jackson '21 and Cayden Faley '22. We have also purchased new couches for the living room with the intention of restoring it as our formal area. With the help of our dedicated recruitment chairmen, James Harrell '22 and Matt Millies '21, Beta Chapter welcomed 10 fine Christian men into the Fraternity. We also said "see you soon" to our two fall graduates, Dane Reid '19 and Brett Womble '20, who will use skills gained in the Chapter to go on and be successful in their careers. We continued to field competitive teams in intramurals; the flag football team ranked second and indoor volleyball ranked fourth. One of our biggest events this year was selling hot dogs and rolling out our dunk tank for philanthropy. Together, our 40 undergraduate members completed 320 hours of community service and raised more than $1,200 for the benefit of Wounded Warriors and Habitat for Humanity. Beta Chapter had a cumulative GPA of 3.09. Scholarship Chairman Reis McMillan '21 is working diligently to improve this further by hosting weekly study sessions and grade checks with new members. Upcoming events and Chapter House projects include the addition of a new Wi-Fi system that will be paid for by a grant from the Educational Foundation. The Mulberry tradition has returned for both the spring and fall semesters; contact betasigs.executive@gmail.com for more details. Finally, it was with great sadness that we were informed of the passing of Dan Stoppenhagen '81. Beta Chapter hosted a memorial gathering in our front yard, placing a marker for Dan under our tree. Many alumni attended the event, sharing memories and laughter throughout the Chapter House as they reflected on their time with Dan. Beta Chapter is ready for the challenges the spring semester brings, and preparations for the Beta Sigma Psi centennial in 2025 have begun. We hope you all have a prosperous 2024, and as always, Per Aspera Ad Astra. Yours in Christ, Kyle Doctor '22 Chapter President doctor5@purdue.edu Chapter Navigates Home Repairs, Life, and Loss The memorial marker for Dan "Snoop" Stoppenhagen '81. We placed it under a tree, as he believed in the Greek proverb, "A society grows great when men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit."
